While you’re doing the prologue inAssassin’s Creed Shadows, there will be a point where Naoe will enter a Kofun to recover something important. This is the first time you’ll enter one of these caves in the story, and after you enter the open-world, you can commonly find them on your exploration.

Once you enter these Kofuns, you have to follow a specific path and solve a few puzzles to reach the final chest, which provides you some unique gear. However, it’s easy to get lost on this path since the cave is quite dark.

Where To Find Old Kofun

As you get past the prologue in Assassin’s Creed Shadow, you’ll get your own hideout where you may set up multiple buildings. When you get to this part, you’ll also get multiple quests to start your assassination journey of the Shinbakufu, andsome of them will ask you to head over to a city called Sakai.

This can be found as you move to the southeast direction of the hideout near the shore, andyou can find the Old Kofun on the right side of Sakai on the map. If you activate one of the fast travel points near this area, you’ll see its exact location as a “?” on the map, whichmakes it easier to locate it as you may use the GPS mode.

You’ll also need to reach this Old Kofunwhen you’re doing Naoe’s story, so you can also save the exploration till that point.

Though the path you have to follow for the story iscompletely different once you enter.

Once you reach the area that has the Old Kofun mark, you have to arrive at the exact mark to find the way inside. When you come to this Kofun during the main story with Naoe, the quest location will be shown on the top of the little mountain with this Kofun on it. However, your entrance will still be at the same place.

To get to this quest location, you have to turn right after entering the Kofun instead of following through the small gap.

How To Beat Old Kofun

Once you enter the Old Kofun, you’ll realize that the main hurdle here is the darkness, which doesn’t get much better even at high brightness. You can also only enter this Kofun as Naoe since Yasuke won’t be able to fit through the tiny gaps. However, there are also some Kofuns that can only be explored with Yasuke.

You’ll commonly find things that you can light up on your path, and it’simportant to do these so that you’ll know which part you’ve visitedalready.

You have to navigate your way through this darkness, and here are the exact steps you have to follow:

After entering the Kofun, move forward and downwarduntil you find a lit-up area with your first chest. Claim this chest and you can squeeze past thesmall gap at the bottom on its right by going prone.

Once you get to the other side, keep moving straightuntil you reach a wall where you have to turn right, and then left a bit after to reach another lit-up area.

From the lit-up area, you can turn right and go down a few small stairs to reach a broken bridge. Stand at the edge of the bridge andyou can use your grapple to swing yourself to the other side.

On the other side, go down the stairs andthen turn left first to get your second chest. After getting the chest, turn around and you’ll see another small gap in the wall for you to go through.

If you feel like you can’t see the way forward at any point, you can also use Eagle Visionas it lights up the surroundings a bit.

Once past the gap, you can jump into the water anddive down to see the way forward under the water. Once you get back out of the water, you’ll see some more in the front, andyou can find the third chest under this water.

Claim the chest and then head back to the middle platform, which will let you grapple swing to the next part.

As you head down the next part, you’ll see two paths near the next light you’re able to turn on. Take the path on the right first as this leads you to another unique chest with a headgear. After claiming this chest, jump back down.

You’ll arrive in the same waters as the third chest above and you cangrapple through again to follow the left path from the light.

Keep following this path and you’ll reach a lit area with asmall gap in the floor again that you can crouch through. After this, the path will be fairly bright for a bit, and you have to turn right when you reach an open area.

Go up the stairs and you’ll arrive at another broken bridge. Instead of using grapple here, simply jump in the water, get to the other side, and you’re able to climb up from the left. Past here, you’ll find the main chest of this Kofun.

After you claim the legendary chest in the Old Kofun, you can’t simply teleport out of it as the game doesn’t allow that. You instead have to find your way out, which starts as you go left after taking the chest. Follow this path for a bit and you’ll reach a dead end, but there will be some elevated platforms to your left.

Jump on the left platform and then the one in the front. After that, you’ll see a special rock with extra texture on it.you’re able to climb on this rock and go all the way up to another bridge. Once on it, follow the left path up and you’ll eventually slide into an area with a tool refill.

Once you go down this slide, youwon’t be able to go back into the Kofununless you start from the entrance again.

To the right of the tool refill, you’ll see a few stairs and some explosive barrels at the top.Break these barrels using your Kunai and it’ll also break the wallin front. This will take you back to the first chest you got in this Kofun. From here, you can turn left and go up the path to reach the exit.
