Once you’ve joined the Thieves GuildinOblivion Remastered,you’ll open up a new world of opportunities to capitalize on. After you’ve helped the guild with a few of the early special jobs, you’ll be trusted with more serious undertakings, like Misdirection. This quest requires you to relieve pressure on the Thieves Guild by misdirecting the Imperial Watch’s attention away from the Waterfront District.
Essentially, Misdirection centers on a series of high-profile heists occurring at the same time, which should force the Imperial City Watch to spread their forces around instead of remaining in the Waterfront District. You’ll need to find Methredhel and help lead the efforts.
How To Start Misdirection
After you’vesold 300 gold worth of stolen gold, completed Ahdarji’s Heirloom,and been promoted to the rank of Prowler, you’re ready to accept the next questfrom S’krivva, Misdirection.
This is one of the more exhilarating Thieves Guild quests, as you’ll be tasked with helping toreclaim the Imperial Waterfront District for the Thieves Guild.
How To Clear Out The Imperial City Waterfront District
You’ll need to find Methredhel in the Imperial City by traveling to one of the districts andasking around with the beggarsto discover her location.
You’ll learn Methredhel is hiding atDynari Amnis' house in the Talos Plaza District;head there now.
Speak with Methredhel and listen to her plan to stage high-profile thefts and force Lex’s hand. You’ll be heading to theArcane University to stealHrormir’s Icestaff.
StealingHrormir’s Icestaff
Hrormir’s Icestaffis in the Arch-Mage’s room, wherehe sleeps from 1:00 am to 7:00 am.Methredhel also gives you a note to place inside his nightstand.
Head to the Arcane Universityand enter the Arch-Mage’s room via the teleporters in the lobby. Sneak into theArch-Mage’s Quarters and stealHrormir’s Icestafffrom the foot of his bed, then place the note in his nightstand adjacent to his bed.
This section is easy if you’re already a high-ranking Mages Guild member or already the Arch-Mage, since you’ll be stealing from yourself.
Next, bring the staff back to Methredhel and get yournext assignment: spying on Hieronymus Lexuntil the siege on the Waterfront is broken.
Spy On Lex & Return The Staff
Travel back to the Imperial City Waterfront tofind Lex near the shackswhere your house might be if you bought the one in this district.
As you approach, you’ll be locked in place and watch as aDremora delivers a note to Hieronymus Lex,ordering him and his men to leave the Waterfront District.
Grab the noteoff the ground and return it to Methredhel in the Talos Plaza District.
With the siege on the Waterfront broken, thelast thing on your list is to returnHrormir’s Icestaffto the Mages Guild by placing it in Ontus Vanin’s safe chest.
Head toOntus Vanin’s house on the other side of the Talos Plaza Districtand break into it by picking thehard lockon the front door, then theaverage lockupstairs into his quarters.
Interact with Ontus Vanin’s chestin his room to placeHrormir’s Icestaffinside, then your job is done.
