One of the longer quest chains inThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredis the Mages Guild quest line. If you’re a spellcaster, you’ll want to join this guild to get all the cool spells in the game and, later on, make some custom spells. The bulk of the quests are the Guild Recommendations.

To get into the Arcane University and become a full mage, you’ll need to get a recommendation from each city’s Mages Guild. Except for Kvatch, because everyone there is quite busy. One of the cities you’ll need to get one from is Bravil, where the guild there specializes in Illusion spells.

How To Start The Bravil Recommendation Quest

To start the Bravil Recommendation quest, you’ll first need tobe part of the Mages Guild. You will need to have a clean criminal record to join. Once you’ve joined the guild,go to Bravil and head to the Mages Guildthere. It’s located next to the church in the area and is a large wooden structure.

Once you’re inside,talk to Kud-Ei about the recommendation; you can easily spot her since she’s the only Argonian in the guild. She will talk to you about Ardaline, another member of the guild. Her staff was stolen by Varon Vamori, and you’retasked with retrieving the staff.

Kud-Ei will give you a Beguile scrollto help you with the task. The next step is totalk to Varon Vamori. He can be found in the guild fromaround 8 AM to 10 AM. He can also be found either in the church, the Silverhome on the Water Inn, or at his home north of the Guild building.

When you talk to him, pick the dialogue option totalk about Ardaline. You will need toincrease his disposition to 65 or higherfor him to talk. You can do that by using the Beguile scroll on him. Once he opens up,ask him about the Mage’s Staff, thenask about Soris Arenim.

How To Get The Mage’s Staff

Once you’ve learned about the location of Soris Arenim from Varon Vamori,talk to Kud-Ei again.

Once you’ve talked to her,pick the dialogue option about Soris Arenim, and if you choose the Mage’s Staff option again, she’ll give you three Beguile Scrolls for him.

Soris Arenim can befound in Imperial City, Talos Plaza District, inside his house. It’s north of where you spawn when you fast travel there.

Once you’re inside, talk to Soris Arenim. You will need toincrease his disposition to 70 or higherfor him to talk about the staff; he willgive it to you for 200 gold.

How To Steal The Mage’s Staff

If you don’t want to pay him 200 gold, there areother ways of getting the staff. If you talk to his wife, Erisarre Arenim, she’ll tell you thatthe staff is stored in the basementand that the key is inside his desk on the second floor.

Sneak into the second floorby lockpicking the door, thentake the ‘Soris Arenim’s Key’ from the desk. You can then use it to open the door to the basement, go there, andlook for the Drawers with a Hard Lock, open it with the key, and steal the Mage’s Staff.

How To Complete The Bravil Recommendation Quest

Once you’ve successfully taken the Mage’s Staff, either legally or illegally,go back to Bravil and talk to Kud-Ei. Tell her you have the staff, and she will thank and congratulate you for completing the task. She will then give you the recommendation, completing the Bravil Recommendation quest.

She will alsogive you theCaptivatespell for free. TheCaptivatespell is a touch spell that will Charm the target for ten points for ten seconds.

While it is free, the spell itself costs more magicka to cast than when you make a similar one as a custom spell.
