The Daedric Princes ofThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivioncan be gracious when properly placated, and that’s still true in Oblivion Remastered. Meridia is one of the more benevolent daedra, and when you find her statue in the wilds of Cyrodiil, she sends you on a holy quest. It’s a straightforward affair, but not without its challenges.

Like all quests for the Daedric Princes, your reward for completing the Meridia quest is a powerful artifact—a ring, in this case. We’ll cover everything you need to know about completing the quest in this guide.

How To Complete The Meridia Quest

To start, while we said thatMeridia’s quest is simple, that doesn’t mean it’s easy. You’ll be facing necromancers and their undead minions, including additional undead summons, in a small cave where it’s hard to maneuver.

In our run of the quest, we were often overwhelmed by the masses of skeletons, zombies, and damaging spells. As such,we don’t recommend starting this quest until you’re at least level 15, or five levels above the starting requirement.

You’ll want a full complement of quality gear, including enchanted weapons, anda hefty amount of potionsto heal the damage you’re bound to take. We were wearing Orcish Armor and were a Destruction/Conjuration battlemage. That particular build was pretty effective at tackling the quest.

Every Necromancer you fight in this quest isloaded with healing potions for your health, Magicka, and Fatigue. If you run short of heals as you progress, be sure to check their pockets.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to retreatand return to take on the enemies again once you’ve recovered. The moment you feel like you’re being overtaken, disengage and prepare for another assault.

How To Start The Meridia Quest

The easiest part of Meridia’s quest is starting it. Travel about 200 meters directlywest of Skingrad to find Meridia’s Shrine. Speak to the high priest there, Basil Ernarde, to learn how to earn an audience with the Daedric Prince.

You need topresent her statue with something related to the undead. Specifically, you need to interact with the statue with at least one of the following items in your inventory:

Youonly need one item, and once presented to the statue, Meridia herself will speak to you.

She says a group of necromancers has holed up in the Howling Cave southeast of Skingrad. If you want her reward and favor, travel there and clear the cave of their heresy.

How To Clear Howling Cave Of Enemies

Here’s where things get tricky. Not only are there Necromancers in Howling Cave, but their undead creations and servitors, as well. You’ll mostly be fighting skeletons and zombies, but there are Wraiths as well. The Wraiths are of particular note because they’llSilenceyou, temporarily preventing you from casting spells.

Every room in the cave is small, meaningyou’ll quickly be surrounded if you’re not careful. There are also two levels to the cave, as with most dungeons in Oblivion Remastered. You’ll first enter the Howling Cave, then the Howling Cave Lower Galleries.

To complete Meridia’s quest, you need to defeat every Necromancerin the cave. Only then will the quest progress, allowing you to return to Meridia’s Shrine for your reward.

The first section of Howling Cave is made up of an initial hallway and several offshoot passageways to the left, right, and back. You’ll find mudcrabs and ratsin the first area, and to the right.

Once you progress past the initial hallway,a Skeleton Champion will start to pursue youdown either the left or right path. Defeat it and its summon, then proceed deeper into the tunnel.

That path that leads deeper into the cave will end in a right-hand turn and an apparent dead end guarded by a Wraith. Take out the spirit andlook right at the end of the tunnel for the secret doorto open for you. Proceed into the Lower Galleries through it.

How To Clear The Howling Cave Lower Galleries Of Necromancers

The hallway leading into the Lower Galleries is trappedwith a falling spiked ball in addition to the enemies there. At first, you’ll encounter a pair of Necromancers, two Zombies, a skeleton, and whatever undead the Necromancers summon.

Even with a summon of your own, that’s still more than three-to-one odds. Provided you can defeat this initial wave, you shouldtake the time to loot the Necromancers for their potions and spell scrolls.

There are two additional areas in the Lower Galleries to clear—the caves to the right of the entrance, and those to the left. If you take the right, you’ll encounter a Necromancer, a Wraith, a Skeleton, and whatever the Necromancer summons.

The side hallway you pass on the way to the larger set of enemies also plays host to an additional Necromancer, who will, of course, summon more enemies for you to fight.

Return to the main hallway and head down the left side path, past the alchemy table, to encounter one more Necromancer and a Wraith. Taking out the Necromancer will complete the Howling Cave section of Meridia’s Quest.

Finish looting the spellcasters and the various chests and coffins in Howling Cave, then return to Meridia’s Shrine. She’ll praise you for your work andreward you with the Ring of the Khajiiti.

The Ring of the Khajiiti is incredibly powerful, especially for stealth builds. Not only does it buff your Speed by ten points,it also grants a free and permanent 35 percentChameleoneffectso long as you wear the ring.

If youstack enoughChameleoneffects, you may become almost completely invisiblewithout needing Invisibility potions. The effect also works if you’re in heavy armor not suited for sneaking, though at that point, why are you trying to sneak?

Earning the Ring of Khajiiti is your marker thatyou’ve completed Meridia’s quest.
