Protection and escort quests are rarely fun. Worse, the Killing Field inThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivionand its Remaster has you keeping not one but two NPCs alive against a veritable horde of goblins.
The reward you receive is also dependent on how many of the NPCs you manage to keep alive. Spoiler alert: keeping both of them alive gets you by far the best reward. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to even the odds and keep both characters alive.

How To Start The Killing Field
To start The Killing Field, head west of the Imperial City to Chorrol. There, east of the South Gate, is the Grey Mare.Head inside and speak to Valus Odiil. He’ll be yelling about his missing sons.
Select the ‘Sons’ topics and he’ll explain that his two boys, Rallus and Antus, have run off to protect their family farm. Select ‘Creatures’ to learn that monsters have been coming out of the forest to attack the farm, andnow the boys have decided to take action on their own.

If you agree to help Valus with his sons,he’ll direct you to go to Weynon Priory, where he was supposed to meet them.
How To Protect The Sons
When you arrive at Wynon Priory, you’ll find both Rallus and Antus on the main road infront of the buildings. Speak to Rallus and agree to help him and his brother clear out the creatures.
Walk with the brothers to their farm, butdon’t simply pass time to progress their quest. The goblins appear shortly after the boys reach the farm, and you could easily get the two killed by trying to be efficient.

You’ll reach the farm after a few minutes of walking, and Rallus will speak to his brother to prepare for the fight. After about 30 seconds total, the first wave of goblins will arrive.
The goblinscome in two waves:
Thesecond wave arrives about 30 seconds after the first, so you’ll need to clear the first wave quickly if you want to keep the boys alive.
As with most group fights, summoning a skeleton, Atronach, or other allied creatureredirects some of the enemies away from those you’re trying to protect.

We also recommendusing a shield and standing between the largest group of goblinsand whichever NPC has been taking the most damage.
You’ll complete the quest to keep the boys alive (or let them die) afterdefeating eight or nine of the eleven goblins that appear, rather than the entire pack. Keep protecting the boys to ensure you don’t accidentally let one or both of them die, to provide the best reward.
It’s recommended tosave the game before the fightso you can reload if one of the sons dies.
What Do You Get For Completing The Killing Field
Your reward (or lack thereof) depends on the survival of Rallus and Antus. To get the reward, return to their father Valus at The Grey Mare in Chorroland tell him the result of the battle. If it’s nighttime, you’re able to find Valus in his home on the west side of town.
You don’t get any gold for keeping the two sons alive, butChillrendis a fantastic weapon for the early game, and is worth a pretty penny if you do want to sell it.
