You may have come across the West Gate inBlue Princeduring your exploration but couldn’t find a way to access it. And that’s likely why you’re here. It’s worth the effort, though, since unlocking the West Gate grants you a Permanent Addition that stays with you even after the day resets.

In this guide, you’ll find out which rooms help unlock the gate, how to find them, and a full list of Outer Room functions. On your way, you might encounter extra rewards and the chance to finish other objectives. Some of which even include other Permanent Additions for your journey.

Why Open The West Gate?

Opening the West Gate allows you to draft Outer Rooms, each offering unique functions and valuable bonuses that can significantly enhance your overall run. You can draft one Outer Room per day. Below, you’ll find a list of Outer Rooms, along with their functions and any related puzzles:

Hovel

Allows you toopen gem-required doors by sacrificing your steps instead.This is especially useful when you’re out of gems but have plenty of steps left. Sometimes, being able to unlock a room can make or break your adventure.

You canactivate a Blue Flameby interacting with a valve in this Outer Room.

Root Cellar

Increases the number of dig spots in the rooms.This is handy if you’ve already found a Shovel early on, or if you’ve left one in the Coat Check room.

Adds eight Classrooms to the current day’s Draft Pool.

It’s where you canactivate a Blue Flame.

Increases your chances of entering The Study, where you’re able to open a safe containinga gem, a Red Letter, and a blueprint for the Closed Exhibit.

Boosts the likelihood of drafting the Library, where you cancheck the current in-game date.

Shelter

Protects you from the negative effectsof the next three Red rooms you draft.

In the Shelter, you’ll also find a computer that displays the radiation level and allows you toenter the date and time to open the nearbyTime-Lock safe.

Shrine

Grants youa Blessing that lasts for several daysin exchange for coins.

Tomb

Each time you draft a Dead-End room in your House,spread 5 Coins in the Tomb.

Tool Shed

Receive two special items.It’s very handy since you may find items like the Sledge Hammer, Shovel, Metal Detector, and more.

Trading Post

Trade your items.

Inside, you’ll finda small 3x3 puzzle box containing an Allowance token.This permanent upgrade increases the number of Coins you can receive at the beginning of each day. You can get them at the start of your run from the table in the Entrance Hall.

How To Unlock The West Gate

To unlock the West Gate in Blue Prince, you need todraft two rooms in the same run: The Utility Closet and The Garage.These rooms don’t need to be connected to each other.

How To Open The Garage Door

In the Utility Closet, turn the Garage switch to ‘On’to open the Garage door. The Utility Closet can be drafted anywhere in the house without any special requirements. It’s related to other Permanent Upgrades like:

The Garage, however, will always appear on the furthest-left side of the west wing,and you’ll need a gem to draft it. Once inside, you’ll find three keys hanging below the Garage door activator.Interact with the activatorto open the Garage door.

If you’ve found the Car Keys during your run, use them to unlock the car’s door and trunk. Inside, you’ll discover a document, and in the car’s trunk, an Upgrade Disk for your computers.

After looting everything in the Garage,exit and follow the path until you reach the first trail that leads left.Keep going until you come acrossa wooden plank bridging two sides of land over a canal.From there, you’ll see two paths ahead.

The right path leads to West Path - The Grounds, where you’re able to draft an Outer Room.The left path takes you to the West Gate,which you canunlock from this side to access it permanently.Once unlocked, this path will remain open every day, allowing you to access the Grounds and draft your Outer Room anytime you want. From here, you can return to the front of the manor and re-enter the Entrance Hall.

The wooden plank only appears if you take this path from the Garage. If you enter the West Gate from the Entrance Hall, you’ll need to turn right to enter the West Path - The Grounds and cross the wooden bridge to reach the Outer Room.
