Alternative Cards

An alternate version of this deck replaces several of the support cards for Exeggcute and Exeggcutor ex. Exeggcutor ex is an all-around great card, as it has a very low Energy cost attack with high damage potential, and high base health. Two of these guys will let you stall while building up your Beedrill, which can sometimes be tricky to do on your own due to Weedle and Kakuna’s low health pools.

Beedrill Ex Deck Strategy

This deck focuses entirely onevolving Weedle as quickly as possible, getting Beedrill ex set up, and then preventing your opponent from stacking energy on their active Pokemon. This deck only uses two Weedle, two Kakuna, and two Beedrill ex as its Pokemon, with the remainder of the deck being cards to support them.

Since you start every match with at least one Basic Pokemon, you can always start with Weedle, then use its attack, Multiply, to draw your second one. With a combination of PokemonCommunication, Iono, and Professor’s Research, you’ll be able to cycle through your deck toensure you also get Kakuna and Beedrill ex.

Beedrill ex’s attack onlycosts two Energy, so realistically, you can get it set up quickly. From there, spamming its attack every turn whilekeeping it alive with Erikawill be your bread and butter. UseSabrina or Cyrustopull retreated Pokemon back into the Active slot, then finish them off with another Crushing Spear.

Even if you don’t manage to immediately draw Beedrill ex, Kakuna can occasionally stand on its own, at least for a turn or two. String Shot has afifty percent chance to Paralyze the opponent, preventing it from attacking or retreating, giving you an extra turn to hopefully draw into Beedrill ex.

Team Rocket Grunt can also be used todiscard energy from your opponent’s active Pokemon, so use this alongside Beedrill ex to make sure they have a hard time setting up.

Deck Matchups

While this deck isgreat against energy-hungry Pokemonlike Charizard ex, Giratina ex, or Mewtwo ex, it canfizzle against Pokemon with low energy cost. you’re able to also be at a disadvantage against decks that have too much energy generation, like if the opponent hits a lucky Misty, or if Moltres gets too many turns to generate energy.

Additionally, the ability to remove energy is extremely valuable, but Crushing Spear has some of thelowest damage on a stage 2 ex Pokemon. This means if the energy removal is not actively disrupting your opponent’s plan, damage trades will almost always be in their favor.

Pokemon Communication in TCG Pocket

That said, when this deck works the way it’s intended, the results are devastating. The opponent will only be able to watch in horror as their energy is slowly whittled away, preventing them from building up anything on the bench while their active Pokemon is unable to attack.
