Fatal Fury: City of the Wolvesis finally here, taking place two years after Mark of the Wolves, introducing many interesting new additions to the series, ranging from system mechanics to characters. There are also some familiar faces you will run into, such as Kain R. Heinlein, who you may remember as the final boss in MotW.
He’s a tremendously powerful character who uses Dark Void Arts to obliterate the competition, allowing him to be decently well-rounded with the ability to zone and keep the opponent out, checking them the moment they make a mistake for substantial damage. If you’re looking for a zoner-type character in this game, he’s arguably the closest you’re going to get!

Kain R. Heinlein Overview
Kain R. Heinleinexcels at nearly everything, making himone of the best zonersin the game. Hisprojectiles can keep his opponents at bay or even help him set up okizeme optionsthat force them into specific situations, which can be challenging to escape. Furthermore, he alsohas very strong close-quarters options,allowing him to confirm into devastating combos.
What also works in Kain’s favor is hissmall Command List,meaning he’snot overly complex to play or understand,making himrelatively accessible to newcomers,provided you’re willing to accept acharge input.His ability to keep his opponent out andcontrol the match’s tempo and spacingis very satisfying and rewarding. Still, itcan be a bit tricky considering how powerful movement and defense arein Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.

While hiskit is very beginner-friendly, his playstyle may not be if you’re not used to the zoning archetype.He can also be very aggressive, but wefeel he’s at his best when using his projectiles to control the spacein front of him, until he can punish his opponent for making a costly mistake, allowing him to go in and begin pressuring them with his solid okizeme options!

For example,after throwing your opponent,you canplace an orb behind them with Schwarzes Rondo(⬇️↙️⬅️ LP/HP)before they wake up,allowing you todash forward to begin applying your pressure.Since the orb is behind them, and you’re directly in front of them,they don’t have many options here,allowing you toeither go for another grab, a high or low attack,which canlink into your Schwarze Flamme(⬇️↘️➡️ LP/HP), procing an explosion on impact for massive combo and damage potential.
This kind ofsetup also works after landing combos,making him an oki master, as he canplace the orb behind his opponentagain, butuse Schwarzer Panzer(⬇️↘️➡️ HK/LK+HK) toadvance toward his opponent and Brake it,leaving himself in an advantageous situation, allowing him toland a devastating c.HP,which will lead to a massive combo.
Hecan also place two orbs, one on either side of the opponent,allowing him toutilize his zoning prowess to overpower them.Once he can get his offense going from a knockdown or counter play of some sort, he can be very challenging to deal with, making him a solid fighter that we encourage checking out!
