The Chinese pantheon introduced withAge of Mythology: Retold’s Immortal Pillars expansion is vastly different from the Chinese pantheon in the original game. While the major gods remain the same, minor gods, myth units, human units, and god powers have been completely redesigned. On top of that, the playstyle and new mechanics make this pantheon feel entirely unique.
Fuxi is the god of civilization, culture, and heaven. Compared to other major Chinese gods, he is considered more offensive, but depending on the minor gods you choose, he can also be highly versatile. In this guide, we’ve gathered everything you need to know about playing Fuxi.

Fuxi Overview
One of the most unique aspects of Fuxi is his God Blessing, Yin and Yang. With this blessing,Yin and Yang alternate every four minutes:
In addition, buildings locatedin your Favored Land complete research 300 percent faster, allowing you to gain a technological advantage over your opponents very quickly.

Another benefit Fuxi provides is related to Additions — extra structures attached to Military Camps and Machine Workshops. You have two options: either add a small tower that fires at enemies, or reduce unit training time. With Fuxi, theseadditions cost 50 percent less.
Fuxi’s god power is The Peach Blossom Spring. Thisautomatically stockpiles resourcesfrom a source of your choice — except Favor. Your workers can gather these resources at any time, but once you do, the stockpiling stops.

Offensively, Fuxi offers powerful technologies like Celestial Weapons, whichlets your heroes deal extra divine damage, particularly against myth units. Another key technology is Tai Chi, whichincreases your heroes’ pierce and hack armor, while also reducing their training time by 25 percent.
In terms of offense, Fuxi also grants access to Nezha in the Classical Age(the second age). Nezha is one of the legendary heroes, growing stronger with each age you advance.

Minor God Choices
Fuxi’s minor god options are extremely versatile. Since Fuxi excels both economically and offensively, you should select your minor gods based on the current situation in each age. You can choose gods that add healing units to your army or ones that make your forces even more deadly:
Xuannu
Xuannu fits both defensive and offensive playstyles.
Her myth unit, the Qilin, can heal your units. With the Qilin’s Blessing technology, theirhealing power and range increase, keeping your troops alive longer.

Additionally, her Reincarnation technology allowsone human unit to spawn at the Temple after every five human units of the same type die, rewarding aggressive play.
Her god power, Vanish, is also offensive, turning friendly units invisible for a time— ideal for surprise attacks or infiltrating key areas in undefended enemy bases.

Chiyou
Chiyou is fully offensive. He enhances your army andmakes looting more rewarding.
His god power, Lightning Weapons, gives human units and ships a chance to stun enemieswith each attack, making land and naval battles far deadlier. Xuannu offers no naval bonuses, so Chiyou is often thebetter pick on water maps.

His Spoils of War technology rewards aggression further byreturning 50 percent of the cost of destroyed enemy buildings.
Chiyou’s myth unit, Yazi, can teleport to enemies while attacking, making it especially effective against ranged units.

Goumang
Goumang is a balanced minor god suitable for all situations. His myth unit, the Taowu, isvery tanky. With Frenzied Dash, their dash attack damage increases, making them both tough and dangerous.
His god power, Forest Protection, is more defensive, rooting enemies while healing your unitsand protecting buildings.

Goumang alsoimproves naval combatwith Maelstrom, allowing Arrow Ships to spawn vortices that deal divine damage, ideal against mythical sea units.
On wood-scarce maps, his Vibrant Land upgrade is essential, increasing wood gather rate and spawning trees near houses.

Nuba
Nuba is a purely offensive god. Her god power, Drought, is perfect for siege warfare, making enemy buildings easier to destroywhile blocking construction and repairs in its area.
Her Scorching Feathers upgradereduces enemy pierce and hack armorwhen hit by your ranged units, though the effect isn’t permanent.
Her myth unit, Taotie, devours enemy human unitsto grow larger and stronger, similar to Hydra.
Her Rock Solid technologymakes your myth units take 60 percent less damage while standing still, though this drops to 10 percent when moving.
Gongong
Gonggong grants access to the Qinglong,a flying myth unit immune to melee damage. With the Rising Tide upgrade, Qinglong gain veterancy tiers as they fight, increasing their attack speed significantly.
His god power, Great Flood, is devastating, scattering enemy armies and damaging buildings.
Tempestuous Stormreduces hero costs and greatly shortens ability cooldowns, making your heroes much more effective.
Lastly, the Last Stand upgradetoughens cavalry units the lower their HP gets, making it essential for cavalry-based armies.
Huangdi
Huangdi’s god power is similar to the Norse Nidhogg, summoning a dragon.
His myth unit, Hundun, temporarily banishes and terrifies enemies, disrupting army formations. With Power of Chaos, Hundun deals200 percent more damage to banished enemies, making them even more lethal.
Imperial Orderreduces the cost of units trained at Military Camps, giving your melee units an economic edge.
Lastly, Xuanyuan’s Bloodline causes infantry units todeal damage to nearby enemy infantry when they die, while alsogranting nearby allies lifestealfor a short time
General Tips
Time Your Attacks With The Yang Phase
Make sure to use your God Blessing efficiently. Since you will be constantly gathering resources, you won’t need to worry much about Yin. However, during the Yang Phase, your human soldiers and siege units will deal ten percent more damage.
The Yin-Yang cycle switches every four minutes, soprepare your army before entering the Yang phaseand launch your attacks at this time to take full advantage of the damage bonus.
Heroes Are Your Biggest Strength
Fuxi’sheroes are slightly more defensivethanks to Tai Chi research upgrade, andthey also train faster.Because of this, always remember to train your heroes from the Imperial Academy. In particular, Nezha is a hero exclusive to Fuxi, and you’ll be able totrain a stronger version of him in the later ages.
Additionally, you’re able to also train Yang Jian, Jiang Ziya, and five Sage, giving you strong counters against myth units. Don’t forget toresearch Celestial Weapons, which boosts your heroes’ damage even further. Choosing minor gods that enhance heroes can also be a smart move.
Always Prioritize Building Research Upgrades
Fuxi boosts research speed in the Favored Land by 300 percent, giving you a massive technological edge. Use this advantage toquickly unlock both defensive and offensive upgrades, and don’t delay your research.
Don’t Harvest The Blossom Spring Too Early
Convert your Peach Blossom Spring into whichever resource you’re struggling with the most — make this decisionbased on map conditions and the state of your economy. For example, if you’re playing on a map with limited gold mines, you’re able to convert it into gold production.
Since you’ll likely have farms for food already, you may want to avoid using it for food unless absolutely necessary. Keep in mind that your workers cangather resources fromPeach Blossom Spring very quickly, so you can use it to bail yourself out in tight situations.
However, avoid using it too early, especially in the early game when resources are plentiful. Ideally, let it accumulate resources over time and place it somewhere in your baseaway from the most likely direction of enemy attacks.
