Unlike other Soulsborne games,Elden Ring Nightreignis focused primarily on multiplayer. Youcanplay it solo, if you really want, but it’s not designed for just one person (though the game is made easier). Co-op doesn’t work like in other FromSoftware games, either — you won’t see summon signs or Stakes of Marika, and don’t worry about Furcalling Finger Remedies.
Instead, everything is done at the Roundtable Hold before you load into a randomised map to survive three nights against an assortment of bosses pulled from acrossDark SoulsandElden Ring. It might be a little confusing at first, especially if you’re not familiar with the password system, but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with a breakdown of all the key mechanics.
How To Find A Game
Initiating matchmaking is incredibly simple.Walk up to the Table of Lost Grace, and you’ll be prompted toCommence Expeditionby pressing the triangle or Y button.
Do so, and you’ll see a list of Nightlords (or just the Tricephalos if it’s your first time).
If you have a character Remembrance active, you cannot matchmake with players who also have a Remembrance active.
All you need to do isselect your target, and you’ll be put into a queue. Once two other players have been found, the game begins.
How To Invite Friends To A Party
To play with friends, there’s a little more work involved.Press R1 to navigate to the next tab,where you’ll see a list of multiplayer options. At the very top is a prompt to"Invite Members". This is the simplest way to team up in Nightreign, as it allows you toparty with anyone from your friends list.
However, if you have a Shifting Earth event active (i.e. Crater), your friend must have encountered that event, otherwise, you won’t be able to matchmake.
You can also generate a ‘Share Link’ to send to players who aren’t on your friends list.
If you want tostop playing with your group, all you need to do isselect the ‘Disband Team’ option. It’s far simpler than fiddling around with summon signs, but it’s not the only way to matchmake. You can also use passwords.
How To Use Passwords
you may find the ‘Multiplayer Password’option just below ‘Invite Players’. Simply open the box andtype whatever you want into it, and thentell your friends to enter exactly what you wrote. For instance, your password could be “thegamer”.
Passwords are case-sensitive.
Now, when you matchmake, you’ll be paired up with anyone who has the same password. However,if you’re in a duo and need a randomthird partner, you’ll need tochange the number of password players from three to two. This will ensure that there is one slot saved for your friend, and one for someone in the general queue.
What Is A Group Password?
You might’ve noticed that there arefive group password options. These are a little different. Where a multiplayer password ensures you matchmake with anyone who has the same prompt, a group password simply makes itmore likely that you see bloodstains, phantoms, etc.,from those who share the same group password as you.
You can enter a multiplayerandgroup password, and they won’t conflict.
There are a couple of interesting online features unique to Nightreign that this works in tandem with. The first are thewhite phantom Nightfarers, real-time visions of other players which, when walked through, restore your Arts Gauge. Then there are thered phantomsthat are left behind by dead players, which, when examined,drop any armaments they were carrying.
Is Elden Ring Nightreign Crossplay?
Unfortunately, however,Nightreign is not crossplay,even with Share Links and passwords.
PS5 players can play with PS4 players, and Xbox Series X/S players can play with Xbox One players, but that’s it.
FromSoftware hasn’t given a reason why, but when pressured about adding a duos option, director Junya Ishizaki said thatthe team is “considering” the idea, so perhaps down the line we’ll see crossplay implemented. For now, though,there’s no way to play with friends on other platforms.
