Though you’ll be doing plenty of fighting between the story-based battles and the optional fights during expeditions inThe Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, it never hurts to sneak a little more practice in between major story segments - you never know when the invaders are going to attack.

The VR machine in the Training Room helps you keep your team in fighting shape (especially after upgrading their Class Weapons), offeringplenty of pre-planned situationsyou’ll need to conquer. You’ll earn Battle Points for your efforts, as well as some extra experience with using teammates you don’t ordinarily use.

Hiruko congratulating you for training in The Hundred Line Last Defense Academy.

Practice Fighting During Free Time Segments

The Training Room itself is one of the very first new areas you unlock at the Last Defense Academy, becoming available as soon asDay 003at the school. Should you choose to try your hand at a practice battle early on, Hiruko willgive you adviceon how the teammates and enemies are AI, because you’rehaving practice fights in virtual realityaspart of the school’s arcade.

Throughout the game, you’ll unlock plenty of additional practice battles in the Training Room, and you cancheck the practice battle conditions before beginning, since each one is a set scenario with pre-selected teammates and battle criteria. Even if you feel like you’ve got the hang of battle, you’ll spend plenty of time upgrading Class Weapons and teaching your teammates new moves once you’ve got high enough grades and enough materials to do so, so the VR machine is a good way topractice using new or upgraded movesbefore itreallycounts.

Though you’ll be able to play with your upgraded moves when using characters to go back and fight through earlier battles, you won’t be able to work on using a character until they’ve become available as part of the story. The Second Defense Academy kids, for example, are at the main campus for quite a while before you can use them in the machine, despite upgrading their attacks.

While choosing to get some training in doesconsume your Free Time segment, you’ll not only earn your own experience with the characters and requirements in the practice fights, but you’ll also bring in plenty ofBattle Pointsas a reward for your efforts. The better you do in your practice battles, the more BP you earn through multipliers.

Using the VR machine in the Last Defense Academy is never necessary - especially on subsequent playthroughs in search of its over 100 endings - but it’s always helpful to feel confident with your ability to fight before stepping into battle.
