Despite no marketing or buildup, the remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has been one of the biggest video gaming success stories of 2025 so far. The iconic world and story of the fourth Elder Scrolls game have been given new life thanks to the incredibleOblivion Remastered.
While the main story’s quest line will likely be your primary focus, there’s also potentially hundreds of hours that you’re able to spend exploring Cyrodiil and completing its side quests. One of the more interesting side quests is that of ‘Origin Of The Gray Prince’. Here’s how to start this side quest and how to complete it.

How To Start Origin Of The Gray Prince
‘Origin Of The Gray Prince’ can be started anytime after completing the tutorial level by traveling tothe Imperial City’s Arenaandspeaking with Agronak gro-Malog,a.k.a. ‘The Gray Prince’. Agronak is the current champion of the Arena for The Yellow Team, and he can be found training with his swordin the Bloodworks.
This is a missable side quest, as you can challenge Agronak to a fight in the Arena before triggering the start of this quest. Make sure to speak with him before becoming Champion.

Speak with the Gray Prince, and he’ll explain how he got this title, but he’s lacking proof of his noble birth and wants what is rightly his. He knows he’s half Orc, but the other half is a mystery to him, although he does know that his father is a Lord. If you agree to help him,he’ll hand you a keythat can be used to enter a roomin Crowhavenwhere there should be the proof of his ancestry that he needs.
Crowhaven is a Fort locatednorth of Anvil,so you’re best off fast traveling there if you’ve never been to Crowhaven before. Just stick to the main road heading north out of Anvil before heading west across the fields when the road bends to the east. When you arrive at the Fort, you’ll be greeted by Skeletons. Defeat these enemies before heading to the doors to the catacombs.

Navigating The Catacombs
Upon entering the catacombs, there will be more Skeletons as well as Rats and Wolves to defeat before heading further in. Once they’re dealt with, you maydescend deeper into the catacombs. The quest marker on your compass is misleading here, as you cannot head in a straight line to it. Instead, you’ll need to navigate an underground maze of catacombs.
It’s very easy to get lost in these, but roughly speaking, you’ll need tohead forward and then leftin a big loop to go back close to where you entered this underground maze.
Be sure to check the coffins as you go through the catacombs, as there are some valuable items hiding within them.
Eventually, you’ll encounter Lord Lovidicus, the Gray Prince’s father. Surprisingly, the Lord turns out to be a Vampire, and he will attack you on sight. you may choose to either sneak past him or engage in combat with him. Head further into the maze until youfind the living quarters, where there’s theVampire’s Diary on a desk. This is the evidence you need to return to the Gray Prince, but it won’t be what he wants to hear.
Returning To The Gray Prince
Fast travel back to the Imperial City’s Arena andhead down to the Bloodworks.Speak to Agronak gro-Malog, and he’ll thank you for recovering proof of his birth. He’ll quickly train with you, and you’ll receive apermanent boost of +3 to Blade, Block, and Athletics. However, The Gray Prince’s happiness doesn’t last very long, as he reads more of the diary and realizes he’s half vampire.
He becomes very downhearted at this discovery, and this does affect your interactions with him from this point. When you do fight him to become the Grand Champion of the Arena, instead of putting up a fight and trying to defeat you, Agronak allows you to kill him and even encourages you to do so.
