It’s all hands on deck divers as things go from bad to worse inHelldivers 2. The war went in an unexpected direction thanks to some sudden Illuminate intervention via a blackhole that was once a bug infested world. Now all of Super Earth is in peril, and it’s looking like humanity’s last stand.

But not all is lost as your local S.E.A.F. (SEAF) have been conscripted en masse and in the heat of battle these barely armed boys can lend a helping hand for the greater good of democracy. It’s an overlooked and slightly hidden mechanic, but in a pinch you’re able to pull in some helpful hands via nearby S.E.A.F. recruits. So to help you drive those anti-democratic xenos off the planet, here’s how to recruit S.E.A.F. soldiers in Helldivers 2.

Helldivers 2: A super earth citizen drafted into the SEAF unit.

How To Recruit SEAF

A new hidden mechanic introduced just as theIlluminate fleet broke throughthe planetary defence barrier, now you can pull in some reserve troops in a pinch. The Super Earth Armed Forces, or S.E.A.F. (SEAF), havealways been a part of Helldivers, way back since the first game. They weremostly in the background, either operating through the lore or lining the planets we fought on asdead propsfor world building.

But now they’re out and about, and all you need to do isfind themand then order them around. They appear randomly in the background during Super Earth missions and they can beeasily killedif you’re not paying attention. To recruit them to your cause, justrun over to them then use an in-game callout command, like “Follow Me” for example.

Helldivers 2: A helldiver using their communication wheel to recruit a SEAF soldier.

If you’re having a hard time finding S.E.A.F. soldiers, they’rethe little blue dotson the mini-map. So just head towards those.

You will know it worked when the soldier agrees. They will thenfollow you around until you extract. If you’re struggling with grabbing them for recruitement, then you can try usinga salute emote to pin them in placeas they can often justrun out of rangebefore you have a chance to yell at them.

Helldivers 2: SEAF soldiers milling around during combat.

There’s alsodifferent types of troopersto grab. So you could form asmall squad of soldierswith assault rifles, bring boys with heavy machine guns, or if you’re lucky you could end up with somerocket toting S.E.A.F. friendsbacking you up.

You can recruita large number of S.E.A.F. soldiers per Helldiver. The limit seems to be around a dozen.

Helldivers 2: Helldivers receiving backup from SEAF.

What Can SEAF Recruits Do?

Before you go in thinking this is acomplex mechanic, it really isn’t. The S.E.A.F. soldiers are essentiallylittle mindless dronesthat will follow you around and shoot at other threats that come near. So they’re someextra gunsthat will watch your back.

You can’t heal them with stims, reload their weapons in any way, or extract them onto your dropship at the end of a mission. They’re alsovery situationally unaware, possibly because they’re fresh recruits. So they’ll often walk straight into fire, stand on grenades, wait undersupport stratagemsthat will squash them, and generally get stuck on things. They alsocan’t climb into the FRVas passengers.

Helldivers 2: A SEAF soldier about to be blown apart by a grenade.

But you canorder them to follow you, and if you ping an enemy target they will open fire on it. Though just make sure there’sno crossfireas they will shoot you and each other accidentally.

There are a lot of calls from the Helldiver community tomake recruitable S.E.A.F. soldiers a stratagemdue to how popular this mechanic has become.

Helldivers 2: SEAF units backing up a helldiver on Super Earth.

But if you’re in dire need of some backup, then youcan’t shrug at some fellow democratic citizenslending a hand. The S.E.A.F. recruits will alsotalk amongst themselvesabout how cool it is to be around a real Helldiver, so it’s a nice littlemorale boost from the boysas you run around.
