If you thought that things couldn’t get much weirder than some of theShivering Isles side questsinOblivion Remastered,then prepare for yet another strange turn of events during Symbols of Office. As the quest name implies, this quest focuses on outfitting you with the right regal accessories worthy of the title of Sheogorath.
While you might not have had this on your bingo cards, you’ll need to find a way to restore the Staff of Sheogorath to its former glory; otherwise, it wouldn’t be a very effective symbol for the Daedric Prince of Madness, would it?
How To Start Symbols Of Office
Once youspeak withSheogorathafter youcomplete The Helpless Army,you’ll witness a perhaps shocking event: Sheogorath’s transformation into the Daedric Prince of Order, Jyggalag.
After you witness this slightly disturbing turn of events, Haskill approaches and tells you something even more shocking:you have to become Sheogorath in his absence.
However, as any good leader knows, you’re going to need a sign of authority, and thus, youbegin your quest, Symbols Of Office.
Haskill tells you that you’ll need togo to Knifepoint Hollow to remake the Staff of Sheogorathand return it to glory, and sends you off with a crystal you’ll need later to open the door to the library.
How To Restore The Staff Of Sheogorath’s Power
Dart over toKnifepoint Hollow, north of the Hill of Suicides, and head through the first area, following your marker to theAncient Door,which will crumble using theKnifepoint Crystalwhen you activate it.
From here, step inside, and you’ll find yourself face to face with a man called Dyus, who was expecting you.
Speak to Dyus,who explains that you’ll need two items to restore the staff:The Eye of Ciirta and a Branch of the Tree of Shadesin Milchar.
How To Get A Branch From The Tree Of Shades
When you’re ready,head to Milchar first,just north of the Overlook Road.Enter Milchar, Nexus,and follow the path directly ahead to enter the Grove of Reflection.
Once inside the grove,drop into the first hole to your right (west)and turn right at the first junction you reach to find the Tree of Shades in front of you.
Before you step into this room, you can unequip all your armor and weapons if you want the upcoming fight to be easier.
Approach and just as you’re about to activate the Standing Stone,a hostile cloned copy of yourself will appear in front of you,immediately entering combat.
This copy is wearing everything you are, and has access to all the powers you have, soprepare for a tough battleif you’re fully kitted out and powerful by now.
Once you defeat your shadowy copy, pick up theswordthey dropped on the floor:Shadowrend.Then, approach the tree andtake a branch from it by activating it.
How To Get The Eye Of Ciirta
Leave Milcharand head to theHowling Hallsalong the southern section of the Heretics Horn.
Head inside via theHowling Halls, Narthex entrance, and you’ll encounter several apostles walking around that you’ll need to defeat. You’ll need their Apostle Daggers soon.
Or, if you can sneakily kill one apostle and wear their robes, you can sneak through unnoticed. There are also some robes on a bench done the stairs from the first apostle.
Whichever method you choose, progress forward to the large set of doors leading into theCongregation Chambers.
When you reach this area, you’ll begreeted peacefully by Ra’kheran,regardless of whether you’re wearing a robe or not.
If you’re not wearing one, he tells you to put one on quickly before you’re noticed.
Ra’kheran offers a proposalthat you might want to take him up on:he and his accomplices will help you kill Ciirtaif you get them some daggers to use. You cantake them up on this offer or simply kill everyonein this area, including Ciirta.
The latter is self-explanatory, but to help Ra’kheran, he needs you to get him and his friendsthree Apostle Daggers,without accidentally killing his friends.
To do this, head back into the previous area andgather the Apostle Daggers from those you’ve already defeated(if you took a bloody path).
With thethree daggers in hand from the previous area,speak to Ra’kheran again to initiate the plan.
Once you finish speaking,you can sneakily follow Ra’kheranas he dashes off to enact his cunning assassination, stopping to arm his accomplices for a moment.
After the pause, continue following them into theAntechamberand witness the dialogue before the three apostles kill Ciirta, clearing the path for you totake Ciirta’s Eye.
Wait for your quest to update before looting her body, as the eye won’t be there until prompted.
With Ciirta’s Eye and the branch in hand,return to Dyus at Knifepoint Hollow.
What Rewards Do You Get From Symbols Of Office?
Speak to Dyus,present the materials to him, and he will make an incompleteStaff of Sheogorath for you.
However, after he’s done, you have to take it to the seat of power at the palace and imbue the staff with the power from the Font of Madness.
Return to the New Sheoth Palace and activate the Font of Madnessbehind Sheogorath’s throne, completing Symbols of Office and beginning The Roots of Madness.
While you don’t get any additional rewards, Shadowrend, the sword you picked up earlier, is an excellent addition.
