Destiny 2: Heresyfeatures a community-based puzzle that requires Guardians to combine their findings to solve a complex chess game. It can be found inside Eris’ Throne World and is a bit of a head-scratcher. Before you’re able to attempt to solve the puzzle, however, you will need to locate 60 chess pieces from different destinations.
Successfully solving the puzzle will unlock the En Passant triumph, an Exotic Ship, a Shader, an Emblem, and some materials. This guide details everything there is to know about finding the chess puzzle, all 27 solutions (including the endgame one), and their rewards.
How To Access The Chess Puzzle
To access the puzzle, you mustcollect all 60 Chess Piecesscattered throughout the solar system.Most of these are in the Nether, but a few can be found in theEuropean Dead Zone,Europa,Tower, etc. Here is a breakdown of their locations:

Alternatively, you’re able to join someone who has collected all 60 Chess Pieces to load into the instance. Once loaded in, they can promote you to Fireteam Leader before leaving.
Once you have solved the puzzle in someone’s instance, you should be able to directlylaunch it without collecting a single chess piece.
To find it, travel toEris’s Apartment in The Last City. Once there,enter the Hive Portalto access her Throne World. From the middle platform,drop down to find a hidden roomwith a chessboard with the prompt, ‘Pick up the King?’. Interact with it toenter the Unknown Antechamberto solve the puzzle.
After discovering the Unknown Antechamber once, you will unlock direct access to the Middlegame / Endgame puzzle variants. These can be launched from The Last City node in your Director.
This can be helpful if you forgot to claim your rewards or could not pick them up due to inventory limitations.
How To Solve The Middlegame Chess Puzzle
Inside the Unknown Antechamber isa large chessboardwith grids labeled from ‘A’ through ‘H’ and one to eight. Surrounding the board, you willsee different plates, each one with a different function. Here is a breakdown of these plates:

Chess Pieces
There are five plates corresponding to different pieces. These are Pawn, Rook, Knight, Queen, and Bishop.
Standing on a plate and shooting a tile will place the chess piece on that tile. A single fire from a Primary Weapon should be more than enough.
Reset
This completely resets the entire chessboard.
You mustsolve a total of 27 puzzlesto unlock the ‘En Passant’ triumph. To solve a puzzle, arrange the pieces in a checkmate position. Successfully solving a puzzle will trigger the ‘Absolute Pin’ message to appear on the screen. As you continue to solve puzzles, you will receiveGlimmer,Seasonal Weapons, and someLore Entries.

Middlegame Puzzle Skip
If you do not need rewards from the middlegame puzzle, you can simply follow the solution below tojump straight to the endgame puzzle:
If done correctly, you will jump straight to the endgame variant of the puzzle, without having to input correct solutions for all 27 puzzles.
Endgame Chess Puzzle Solution
Completing all 27 puzzles or using the puzzle skip unlocks the endgame variant.Interact with the water basin in the area, which reads ‘The Water Reveals…’ to see a bird’s eye view of the chessboard with a unique Signal Frequency on the left side of your screen. This is part of a huge community puzzle (similar toCorridors of Time) that has been solved after 30+ hours of collaborative efforts from the community.
To solve the endgame puzzle, arrange the pieces in this order:
Pawn
A5, B2, D5, F1, F2, G1, H5
Similar to the middlegame puzzle, you will need tostep on the correct plate, e.g. Queen and shoot A6, A8, B6, etc. We donot recommend using weapons that have some sort of AOEto avoid hitting two grids simultaneously.
Once you have arranged the pieces, head up to the balcony to ‘Offer Your Answer’. If done correctly, this willset the entire chessboard on fire, and achest will spawn in front of you.

Endgame Puzzle Rewards
Once you have solved the endgame puzzle,open the chestto claim these rewards:
After claiming your rewards, interact with the water basin that reads, ‘The Water Reveals All…’ to watch a cutscene involving the Drifter and your Guardian. It is a briefteaser for theEdge of Fate expansion.
