Oblivion Remasteredretains much of the charm of the original entry into The Elder Scrolls series, but manages to modernize certain aspects of the game that were dated enough to warrant it.
For players new to the game, there are certain things that are going to make immediate sense in a modern game, while there are other things that are going to feel more like an old-school idea that still holds up today. It makes for a bit of a fun combination of gameplay elements; we’ll cover some of the most important tips for new players to keep in mind here.

Make A Plan For Your Character
Something that generally holds in RPGs of any era is tomake a plan for how you’d like to build your character. This doesn’t mean you need to completely figure out everything that you’d like your character to be able to do, but if you have some goals to aim toward, you can always adjust slightly along the way.
One thing that makes Oblivion slightly more unique in this regard is that youcannot respec your character after you’ve made a choice. So, be confident in the choices that you made, and if you want to adjust your character, you’ll need to ensure you spend the time learning the skills to do so.

Constantly Level Your Skills
Nearly everything that you do in Oblivion Remastered is going to earn you XP towardleveling upa certain skill;this is even true of moving around.Jumping is going to level up your Acrobatics skill, for instance, which will give you passive effects that are useful for just about any character type.
This issimilarly true of many different things; for a character looking to increase their Restoration, healing themselves with a spell will slowly level the skill. Taking damage from a fall and healing it back will be a way to level up both Acrobatics and Restoration, and iseasy to do as you travel between locations.

Use Repair Hammers
UsingRepair Hammers is a massive benefit over repairing your armor for money at a Blacksmith. While you should do it either way, and if you don’t have a Repair Hammer at the time, you don’t have a choice, using a Repair Hammer is going to upgrade your Armorer skill.
That Armorer skill has some very helpful abilities in it:
Time Does Not Stop In The Quick Menu
Time does not stop when you’re using the quick menu; in fact, it does not even slow down. Many other games allow you to enter the quick menu and peruse lackadaisically, but if you try it in Oblivion Remastered, you’re going to get killed while you’re doing so.
Entering your inventory will stop time entirely; so, if you’re trying to decide how to deal with a situation, equip lesser-used spells or items, or drink a quick potion, you can do that in the safety of your inventory.
Prepare Your Quick Menu For Many Situations
You’re also going to want tokeep your quick menu full of options that are viable in a variety of scenarios. You’ll want it ready for different damage types, different damage ranges, and so on.
This is going to keep you from entering the quick menu and freezing because you don’t know what to do, and it’llkeep you from continuously having to go into your inventory or spell menuto equip different things.
Unlock And Use Dodge
Dodge is unlocked by progressing to the Apprentice level of Acrobatics, which, again, you’re able to level by jumping. Once you can dodge, it’s going toenable you to maneuver through fights quite a bit easier, in a variety of different builds.
Dodging allows you to quickly move out of danger from a swing or otherwiseavoid damage more gracefullyand more consistently. This will keep you from needing to either block as much or from having to kite enemies as often, by staying just at the edge of their range.
Gather A Variety Of Enchanted Items
You’re going to run into a lot of different situations in Oblivion Remastered, and those situations are going tocall for a variety of different kinds of gear. In particular, there are going to be times when you’ll be at an advantage for being able to deal a certain kind of damage, and/or being resistant to a certain type of damage.
Having a variety of different gear to choose from, even if it’s just a few different weapons and a couple of armor options, isgoing to improve your survivability tenfold. They make a tremendous difference when used in the right situation, and you’ll be collecting quite a bit of enchanted gear throughout your adventures.
Unlock Enchanting
If you don’t want to leave it up to fate, you can alwaysunlock enchanting, allowing you to create all the enchanted gear that you’d like. Progressinginto the Mages Guildwill allow you to do this, as soon as you gain access to the University.
It will take time to create all the enchanted gear that you’d like, as well as a fair bit of resources, namely soul gems and gold. But at the end of it,you’ll have created exactly the gear that you want to use, and you’ll likely know exactly when to use it.
