It might seem a little counter-intuitive at first, given the sub-zero conditionsup in Climate Controlwhen you first get there inMudborne, that you’ll need to rely on the Cooler and the cooling power of the right kinds of frogs to get to the Climate Control machine and reset it.

That’s because you’ll need to find the pieces of equipment around the map that have frozen over so you can thaw them out, and to get to each one, you’ll need to be able to create a path through the ice to reach the machine parts that need attention.

Lower Temperatures Anywhere, Anytime

Reach New Areas In Climate Control

When you first get upinto the Climate Control area, which is the northern path out of the Central Junction, you’ll see that the whole area isfrozen over, including much of the water in the ponds and several of the frogs that once lived in it. On one of the central islands, you’ll come across a large green half-circle that branches off into pipes that spread around the area. These are supposed to maintain the temperature in the region, butthe machine is brokenwhen you arrive.

The first step of getting things back to working order again is togo to the Caretaker’s Restbuilding just to the east of the climate control machine. This is where you’ll find your froggy friend for the region,Annura, but she’s frozen when you first find her. You’ll need tothaw her using a high Umbrage froglike a Furious Lurkerbefore you can talk to her, at which point she lays out the mission of the area for you. After this, you’ll be able totrade with Annuraat any time and for plenty of different things.

To start with, you’ll want totrade for a Cooler, which will cost youthree Frosty Crowns and five Logs. If you haven’t already grabbed some on the way here, Frosty Crowns are the flowers growing in the icy water of the Climate Control region. Flipping through her shop catalog, you’ll see Annura has a vested interest inthe flowers that grow around the regions, so it’s not a bad idea to keep a few of each.

Annura shares a bit of info about the Coolers' use: your goal is touse frogs with minimal Umbragein Cooler machines to immediatelyfreeze a five-by-five areawith the Cooler in the very center. Not only can you use this technique to create all kinds of new mushrooms that require specific temperatures, but you can alsomake ice paths across the water.

Using a Cooler to make an ice path in Mudborne.

If you’ve been using the map of the Climate Control region to navigate through the massive space it encompasses, plenty of which is blocked by the pesky green pipes from the Climate Control machine, then you’ll likely have seen thethree black X markson there, beside small green icons with arrows pointing to them. Annura tells you that these are thesensors for the Climate Control machine, but they’ve frozen over and need to be thawed. If you tried going to those sensors before, you’ll know there’s no direct path to them.

As such, you’ll need tomake ice paths in the waterusing your Cooler andlow Umbrage frogs. Carefully place your Cooler to build the largest sections of ice for easier crossing, and be sure touse your hammer to take the Cooler backwhen you’re finished making your ice path.

Not only does this teach you how to get to the sensors to reset the machine in the Climate Control building, but it also shows that you canmake ice bridges to avoid the green pipesthat block access to certain parts of the map if you’re going through the water. By making ice paths around the islands and pipes, you can move through the Climate Control region with ease. Just keep in mind the ice is slippery!

Create New Chilly Mushrooms

The secondary perk of the Cooler in Mudborne is that you’ll be able to bring it back to your house with you when you’re finished making your ice bridges, where you can place the Cooler indoors close tocultivators with compost placed insideto begin growing new mushroom sporesunder these chillier conditions!
