Much of your success inMonster Hunter Wildswill be predicated on preparation; your choice of armor, weapon, and talisman will impact how easy or difficult a hunt will be, as each piece of your kit can affect your equipped skills. Since the Monster Hunter series doesn’t possess a traditional leveling system, your loadout and skills directly dictate how effective you’ll be in combat.
If you’re not fully satisfied with your character’s perks or want to increase their potency, you can alter them through the use of decorations. Decorations represent the finishing touches of your character build, allowing you to alter stats and equip new skills freely.

What Are Decorations?
As you forge new armor sets, you may notice thatsome pieces come sporting slots. This is where decorations come into play, as theseslots can be filled with jewels that add skill pointsto your loadout.
Equipment skillscanalter your character’s base stats, buff their ability to perform certain actions, and evenactivate new mechanicsif certain conditions are met.
You’ll earn decorations asrewards for completing questsand can easilyfarm them bycompleting Investigations. Aftergaining access to Suja in the main campaign, you’ll unlockthe Melding Pot, where you can choose totransform your unused or unwanted jewels into new ones.
Look at what armor or weapon you’re forging before you craft it; each piece offersa different number of decoration slotsandmay not feature any slots at all.
How To Equip Decorations
Decorations willbecome available after completing the story’s second chapter, and can beequipped by visiting any campsite or hub area. After entering your tent and navigating to the Change Equipment menu, you’ll be able toadd jewels to any gear that has slots available.
Each armor slot has a slot level associated with it, ranging from level one to level three. This governshow strong of a decoration may be placed in each slot, and higher level jewels maytrigger more powerful skills.
Of course, if you want to double down on less advanced jewels, that is also an option. Thus, level one decorations can be placed in any slot, regardless of its designation.
Decoration Strategies
A good go-to strategy if you’re struggling with how to utilize decorations is tosee what abilities your armor grants you on its own. If you inspect your active skills and find there are some that aren’t maxed out, consider looking forjewels that will add the needed points to level up.
For example, if your Guard skill is only at level one, equip decorations that will add two skill pointsand help you make the most of the ability (Guard iscapped at level three).
Alternatively, you canuse jewels to cover up any of your loadout’s deficiencies. If your armor is weak to thunder, think aboutusing your slots to remedy the situation with thunder protectionso you aren’t failing quests against common monsters like theRathalos.
If you’re looking to turn your hunter into a jack-of-all-trades, you could insteadtake every slot and give it a different type of decoration. None of the skills granted to you by your jewels will be particularly strong, but it will beeasier for you to adapt to a wide variety of situationson your hunts.
