Monster Hunter has always been marketed as a hardcore experience; each entry possesses a rather violent gameplay loop, with players killing giant creatures, stripping their bodies for parts, and queueing up to grind for even more materials. Despite this, the series has always sprinkled goofier elements into the equation to allow for some levity.

One of the ways this effect has been achieved is through the integration of minigames.Monster Hunter Wildsadds Barrel Bowling in Title Update 1, letting you test your lane skills with a cumbersome (and explosive) twist. Here’s everything you’ll need to start bowling like a pro.

Barrel Bowling, Explained

Barrel Bowling works very similarly to its real-life counterpart. You gettwo chancesto toss a barrel down the lane, knocking over as many pins as you can.

While traditional bowling only has nine pins, Monster Hunter’s barrel varianthas upwards of 60. There arethree different-sized pins, each withdesignated point values(2 for the smallest, 20 for a medium, and the largest gets you 200). Your barrel alsoexplodes at the end of your throw, potentially netting you an even larger score.

Barrel Bowling will earn you various consumables, but there are a few extra rewards you should look out for. The first time you play, you’ll be given the Barrel Bowling Strap pendant. Finishing with an A rank (stacking over 500 points) gets you the Barrel Bowling Trophy pendant.

To participate in the minigame, you’llneed to use a Barrel Bowling voucher. These can be acquired throughlog-in bonuses, trades with villagers, and throughthe Support Ship.

Although you need to have a voucher to earn rewards, you’re still able to bowl for fun. Practice your shots to develop strategies when you play for real.

Barrel Bowling Tips

There isonly one pin worth 200 points, so knocking it over should beyour first priority. After you’ve done that, you can try toknock down as many more as you can.

At the edge of the bowling area, you’ll findsmall orange arrowsthat help you line up your shots. Take your first roll fromthe arrow second to the leftand aimstraight at the gapbetween the two far rocks. This should take outmost of the pins on the lane’s left sideand blow up the largest pin if you get a favorable bounce.

If you don’t hit the 200-point pin, fear not; you’ll get another opportunity with the next roll.

Your second shot will be a bit more straightforward. Grab a barrel, and this time, position yourself onthe arrow second to the right. From here, aim directly at the 200-point pin(or where it used to be if you’ve already claimed it) and fling the barrel down the hill. You’ll clean upthe vast majority of pins on the right sideand hit the largest if you haven’t already.
