An alchemist wouldn’t be worthy of the title if they couldn’t create powerful substances out of materials found in the wilds. Fortunately, inAtelier Yumia: The Alchemist Of Memories & The Envisioned Land, our namesake protagonist is capable of that and much more, as she demonstrates regularly during her explorations.

This is reflected in the game’s Synthesis system, where you may create new weapons, items, and much more by combining the rare ingredients you find by looking at every nook and cranny of the Aladiss continent. While it seems too much at first, synthesizing is much easier than it looks.

How To Unlock Synthesis

Synthesis is unlocked at the start of the game, after Yumia visits her Atelier during the “Survey Prop Work” quest. Interact with the Altar (in front of the main base) to learn how to Synthesize.

After a brief tutorial, you’re free to start your Alchemist saga. You can only synthesize items next to a Simple Altar. Initially, only the Atelier will have an Altar, but you can place more later in Building Areas you unlock throughout the game.

Using Synthesis consumes your ingredients, so you should always be collecting them. They’ll be placed in your Container as soon as you arrive in any building you’ve placed one of them.

Many recipes create ingredients to be used in recipes.Created ingredients are always better than raw materials. Items and ingredients have Elements, and matching them during Synthesis yields better results.

Recipes haveCore Ingredients that cannot be replaced. They’re the bare minimum needed for creating an item, but adding more ingredients to the mix create better results.

Some Core Ingredients aren’t fully fixed. You can use any flower in the game to make Cloth as it only asks for a Plant, for example.

You only have access to basic recipes at first, but you get more of them, as well as new Synthesis functions,as you progress through the game.

What Are Alchemy Cores?

Alchemy Cores are the main focus of Synthesis. They determine how powerful the item will be,affecting its overall quality, granting it special effects, or even allowing for more post-synthesis enhancements.

Each Core has its Core Ingredient, which is always required for making a Synthesis. After adding a Core Ingredient, you can add more ingredients to get a better final result. Certain ingredients may unlock even more slots for other ingredients, increasing the item’s overall capacity.

A Core can be enhanced by any extra ingredients added. The better the ingredient, the more it’ll be enhanced. Ingredient slots are often restricted by element type or ingredient type.Using recommended elements can create further Resonances, resulting in stronger Cores.

You havethree types of Cores, all affecting a different aspect of your item:

Quality Alchemy Core

Affects the item’s final quality. For ingredients, this affects how much quality is passed down when they’re used as Synthesis material. For equipments, it affects their overall status.

You need tounlock the Quality Control Skillto enhance this Core. Quality is initially capped at 100, but can be increased by learning other Skills.

Effects Alchemy Core

Adds special effects to the synthesized item.Ingredients can obtain Effects that are activated when they’re used as materials, and equipments made with them will receive said Effects, as well as unlocking Effects of their own.

Trait Alchemy Core

Only available for equipment.Unlocks more Trait Slots in the final result.Traits can be equipped in any equipment with available slots, and can add even more effects to your items. Each equipment can have up to three Trait Slots.

How To Create Resonances

Resonances are mandatory for powerful Synthesis. They canadd some fancy effects to your Coreby adding the correct ingredients, and will expanding the ingredient limit on each Synthesis. Resonances arecreated by adding specific/high-quality ingredients to the mix. Certain slots ask for certain ingredient types and elements, and using them will often increase Resonance further. Always try to match the correct elements for better results.

You can see some floating Mana around the Core ingredients.Using certain ingredients collects that Mana below the Resonance counter.Reaching a certain amount of Mana increases your Resonance level. Mana also has special forms, such asEternal Mana(remains even after being collected, being able to collect it again) andCondensed Mana(receives 10 Mana at once).

Materials can also have special effects, which can either increase the item’s final status or activate more Resonances when used as ingredients. Crafted ingredients will always have them, butsome raw materials (especially high-ranked ones) may also have those.

While it’s tedious, creating stronger ingredients to use will yield much better final results. Avoid raw materials (except when making other ingredients), and put in some work when making new weapons, armor, or accessories.

The ‘auto-add ingredients’ option gives you good items, but manually picking your ingredients can give you the best possible results. You can use it for creating high-quality ingredients, though.

you may checkhow many Resonances you’ve activated during Synthesis, as well as their possible effects.

How To Use Item Rebuilding

If you’re dissatisfied with your current item’s status, you can use Item Rebuilding to give them some better status. You can unlock this function through the Skill Tree in the Synthesis category for 200 Skill Points.

Item Rebuilding can be done in Altars, just like regular Synthesis. you’re able to add new ingredients to items with open slots in their Alchemy Cores. However, you cannot overwrite any used ingredients. Some effects won’t activate during Item Rebuilding, such as certain Resonances. While it’s a great way to enhance existing items, it’s often better to create a whole new item from the ground if you want it to be as strong as possible.

How To Use Synthesis Skills

Synthesis Skills can be used before adding ingredients, and will add special effects (such as ATK up or SPD up) to your final result. Each Skill has a cost ranging from one to three Orbs, and you always have three Orbs to use in each Synthesis. Up to three Skills can be used on a single item.

You canunlock Synthesis Skills through the Skill Tree after completing the “Shortcut” questin the main story. It costs 100 Skill Points, and once you unlock it, the Synthesis Skill screen will always appear to you when creating new items.

It’s possible to skip the Skill selection, but there’s no real advantage in doing so, since they’re essentially free to use in every Synthesis you make. They’re completely unnecessary for story-related items, though.

More Skills can be learnedlater in the game, always unlocked after clearing new Regions. These skills gradually cost more Skill Points to learn and more Orbs to use, but are much more powerful and may give special bonuses to the final items.

How To Use Simple Synthesis

Simple Synthesis isunlocked alongside regular Synthesis, working as a smaller-scale item crafting you can use anywhere. You can access it through the radial menu (the shortcuts window). Yumia uses basic materials commonly found on the ground, such as plants and ores, to create many useful items. Some examples areBullets, Bandages, Smoke Bombs, and much more.

New items, such as Repair Kits, are added to the list as you advance through the game. you may make as many items as your Bag allows you to carry.

Certain skills increase the number of items obtained with each Simple Synthesis, and can also increase your Bag’s maximum storage.

How To Unlock New Recipes

You start out with only a couple of useful items, butmany more can be added to the list by completing certain activities.

Once you unlock a Recipe, you need touse the Recipe Recall Station to properly learn it.Doing so costs you Particles, which are found by exploring the Aladiss Continent.

You’ll need tocomplete two steps before unlocking recipes:

Story Progression

Advancing through the main story willautomatically unlock new items at the Station for you to learn. Certain quests require specific quest items to be created, and you’ll get their recipes when they’re needed. You can use the Bare Minimum option for these, as their quality doesn’t really matter.

Finding Materials

You need tofind the correct materials around the mapto properly unlock the recipes. Once you get enough materials for at least one copy, you can use your Particles to recall the recipe.

With these two done, head to the Recipe Recall Station to get your Recipeand resume your Alchemy activities. you may also build more Stations in your other bases.

More recipes can also be unlocked through side-activities, such asspecial quests or Pioneering Effort rewards. Exploration, in general, will give you new recipes to play with.

How To Enhance Your Recipes

The Recipe Recall Station allows you toenhance your unlocked recipes. After spending your Particles to learn a recipe, you’re able to add more Particles to give them extra effects. These effects includecreating more copies of an item, automatically adding quality, unlocking more slots/effects, or enhancing the Base Resonance Count.

Each recipe can beenhancedup to Level Ten, but some have a smaller level cap. Higher levels require high-quality Particles, which are harder to come by.
