Summary

It’s been almost a year of radio silence from Skybound afterit revealed initial details about its ambitious triple-A Invincible gameand crowdfunded more than half a million dollars for it.Invinciblecreator Robert Kirkman has provided an update, confirming development is still underway and saying it’s the most excited he has ever been about the series he created.

Kirkman spoke to Dexertoahead of this week’s season three finale and was asked for an update on the promised Invincible video game. Despite being Invincible’s creator, Kirkman was hesitant to say anything, noting that he wasn’t even sure if he was allowed to say how much of the game he has seen.

That there’s even something for Kirkman to see is a promising development. However, despite the lack of details, what Kirkman said next has further built on the hype Skybound created via its reveal last year. “I’m gonna play it safe and just say, from what I have seen, I am more excited than I’ve been about anything involving Invincible,” Kirkman said.

The Triple-A Invincible Game Is Still A Thing

And The Comic’s Creator Is Very Excited About It

Considering what falls under that umbrella, that’s quite the claim. That presumably means Kirkman is more excited about the Invincible video game from what he has seen so far than the three seasons of television and even the comic books he wrote. Good to know, and exciting stuff, but again, it’s hard to get as excited as Kirkman is about the game when we know nothing about it outside of people in the know assuring us it’s going to be great.

Invincible technically already has a video game - a far less celebrated mobile game called Guarding The Globe. There are also Invincible skins inFortnite, the latest crossover taking place today and bringing new characters into the fold.

When Skybound confirmed more about the game last year, it revealed it will be a “premium model with multiple DLC expansions”. The team working on it is made up of developers who have previously worked on games atActivision Blizzard,EA, andEpic Games. Quite the roster with more than 30 of them working on the game, but no indication of when we will get our first look at it.

No first look at Skybound’s Invincible game isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The list of games that are revealed only to disappear for years and, in some cases, never return is a long one, particularly when it comes to superhero games.Wonder Womanhad seemingly been in development for less time than the Invincible game has beenwhen its teaser debuted, andnow it’s been canceled. It has also been more than three years sinceInsomniac showed off Wolverinewith no real update on it since. If Skybound’s Invincible game is as good as promised, I don’t want to see it until it’s ready and has a release window that isn’t years away.
