Summary

Mortal Kombat 2is hitting theatres on October 24 later this year. We’ve known that more characters from the games will be introduced in the sequel, and recently, they’ve been revealed to us. Now, we’re getting our first look at two new characters: Shao Kahn and Kitana.

And, well… that certainly is a unique take on Shao Kahn.Played by Martyn Ford, this version of Shao Kahn is sporting some very different armour, and this time, he covers his entire face. It’s also much more muted than previous designs of the character, and it’s proving divisive among fans.

Shao Kahn Looks Very Different In Mortal Kombat 2

Is he overdesigned, or is this a good look for the villain?

“Didn’t expect a full facemask for Shao Kahn. I feel deprived of that Kahnly chinnage,” says Reddit user SilliusSoddus in athreadabout the new Mortal Kombat images.

“I feel like he looks like something from Spirit Halloween”, agrees Farsoth.

That said, this take on Shao Kahn certainly has its fans. “Shao legit looks menacing,” argued Gardomirror.

MannerPitiful6222. agrees: “He finally looks like an actual personification of death and doom”.

At the very least, most fans seem to love Kitana’s design. As many are pointing out, this is very reminiscent of her appearance inMortal Kombat 11, with darker colours and some silver accents.

Other fans are also highlighting that in all of the images we’re being shown today, there’s no hint of Cole Young. Cole was a character invented for the last Mortal Kombat movie, and fans of the games were not keen on his inclusion. Therefore, it’s possible that his role has been reduced in the sequel, instead focusing on characters from the games. This wouldline up with the rumours that we’ve heard so far.
