Summary
Helldivers 2’sgigantic Democracy Space Station (commonly referred to as the DSS) has had its ups and downs ever since it was added to the game back in November last year. To start with, the thing ended up blowing everything to pieces, whether it was friend or foe, which then led to a series of tweaks. More recently,it was used to crush the Automaton’s Jet Brigade, which even Game Master Joel was impressed with.
However, for a lot of people, it seems like the DSS is still a little bit disappointing, and a lot of that seems to stem from its long cooldowns. Earlier today, a Helldivers 2 fanwho goes by Background_Source922 on Redditshared their frustration with the DSS on the official subreddit, calling it “lame as hecking hell 88% of the time”.

More Like Dormant Space Station, Amirite?
Background_Source922’s post essentially boils down to their frustration with the DSS not actually doing anything most of the time, as fans are waiting for its abilities to come off cooldowns, which can sometimes be days long. Instead, they want the DSS to be doing something constantly that is actually tangible, disappointed that the only thing it does is increase liberation rates while in orbit.
With almost 2k upvotes, it seems like it’s something that is believed to be a problem by quite a large chunk of the fanbase, with many upset that they don’t even see what the DSS does most of the time, with the effects active when they’re working or asleep. It’s an issue that has many calling for the effects of the DSS to start lasting longer so that more people get to enjoy them.

It takes massive time to start doing stuff, and when it does, I’m at work.
Other fans have begun suggesting ways in which the DSS could have more of an impact while its big weapons are on cooldown, such as BlackRoseXIII’s suggestion of giving everyone free OPS while it’s in orbit, or the suggestion of a new Major Order that would see us liberate a big weapon from the Automatons to put on th DSS and make it more helpful.

Whatever Arrowhead ends up doing, it’s clear that the DSS is still a pretty major letdown for many players so far.Arrowhead has committed to supporting Helldivers 2 for a long time though, and I’m sure future updates will make the DSS a force to be reckoned with eventually. Right now, it’s a little eh.
