Summary

A Minecraft Movie has already been a bigger success than anyone could have imagined, and while that’s great in some ways, it’s bad in others. Many fans seeing the film have been getting a little overexcited. So much so that Jack Black felt the need to show up at one screening to warn moviegoers against throwing popcorn.

Shared by The Hollywood Handleon Twitter (viaGamesRadar), the clip begins with a voice coming over the intercom warning those in attendance against throwing popcorn and lapus lazuli, a gemstone you can mine in Minecraft. It’s then revealed that the ominous voice issuing the warning is Jack Black when the actor turns around at the front of the theater, noting that there are to be “absolutely no chicken jockeys” in the process.

Black lifts a pickaxe over his head and, having issued his warning, tells everyone to enjoy the movie. He then walks through the middle of the screening, giving out a few high fives before realizing he can’t get out that way and has to go back the way he came. By that point, pretty much everyone in the theater is exponentially more excited than they were before he appeared, and most of them are trying to fight their way to him to meet the star of the movie they’ve all come to see.

Jack Black Showed Up To A Minecraft Screening To Calm People Down

Claiming Black dropped by in an attempt to assuageMinecraftfans from getting too excited during the screening might be wishful thinking. It seems more like it was a pre-arranged promotional situation, or knowing Black, he was in the area and thought it would be a fun thing to do. As for stopping people from wrecking the theater in which the movie was being shown, the excitement generated by a Jack Black appearance might have made thrown popcorn and over-the-top chicken jockey reactions more likely.

As A Minecraft Movie crosses $500 million at the worldwide box office, quickly becoming the second-highest-grossing video game movie ever, some of its screenings are devolving into anarchy. One cinema kicked people out afterthey brandished a live chicken during the chicken jockey scene. While Black is warning against that behavior,A Minecraft Movie director Jared Hess finds it all very amusingand doesn’t seem to understand why people are getting so upset. An easy stance to take when it’s your movie getting all the attention and you don’t have to clean up afterwards.
