BAFTArecently released a list ofMost Influential Video Games Of All Time.Selected via a poll, this list named 21 games that have each helped shape and advance the video game industry in their own way. It’s easy to see why the likes ofDoom,GTA,Super Mario Bros.andTetrismade the list.
There are some games on the list, though, that have caused gamers to scratch their heads.At the top of the list is Shenmue, which has a cult following, but can hardly be considered the most influential game of all time. However, more puzzling than that is a game that was released so recently that it hardly had the time to influence anything.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Fans Are Confused By Its Inclusion In The BAFTA List
In a Reddit post on theKingdom Come: Deliverance 2subreddit, shared by none other than Hans Capon actor Luke Dale, even ardent fans of the game agree that it should not be on a list that showcases the most influential games ever made, especially since it launched just over two months ago. I personally love the game too, but it hasn’t done for the industry what the likes of GTA orDark Soulshave.
“7th all time for influential is kinda wild yeah, off the bat halo, Mario, Zelda, Minecraft, gta, cod, Fortnite, cs, lol, and wow are all more influential, and there are dozens and dozens more,” said one comment.
Another said, “Yeah I think they’re confusing quality with influence. KCD2 is a better made game than almost all of the games you listed but in 50 years are people really going to remember this game like they remember GTA or Minecraft? Does it really reshape the world of gaming like Minecraft did and Mario did? Not really.”
From experience, I can tell you that the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 community absolutely loves the game to bits. It will cheer for even the slightest bit of acknowledgment the game gets. But when the community itself is confused by how the game made it to this list, you know that something’s not right.
Since the list was curated via a poll, it seems that most people simply voted for the best game they played recently. That being said, if this was a list of the best recent games, KCD2 would get my vote as well. As for what it has influenced not much yet, besides the urge to buy a full set of medieval armour.
