It looks like it won’t be too long before fans can playthe first new Mafia game in nearly a decade. That’s because it appears that its release date has been accidentally revealed onSteam.
According to a blog poston the Latin American Steam storefront,Mafia: The Old Countrywill be launching onPlayStation 5,Xbox SeriesandPCon June 15, 2025. The eighth happens to be a Friday, which is historically when major Triple-A titles have been launched.
The blog post,which is still up as of this writing, is advertising a PAX East panel that Hangar 13 will be hosting on May 8. The panel, which was announced on Thursday, is set to reveal new details about the upcoming game, with a release date likely part of things. However, the blog post has seemingly accidentally spoiled the big surprise.
For whatever reason,the English-language version of the blog postdoesn’t have the release date, making this a rather unfortunate miscue.
The Old Country Was Announced Last August
Interestingly enough, when Mafia: The Old Country does launch, it’ll be exactly one year after it was announced.The game was announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live, and will take players back in time to the origins of organized crime.
A few months later, in December, at The Game Awards, a new trailer was showcased, along with a release window of “Summer 2025.” The trailer, which clocked in at nearly two minutes, provided more details about the 1900s setting, including a distinct lack of technology, as well as the main character, Enzo Favara.
As far as gameplay is concerned, game director Alex Cox and Hangar 13 president Nick Baynesshared that the title will be closer to Mafia 2 and the original Mafia in terms of scope than the open world that was Mafia 3. In an interview, they called The Old Country a “linear, narrative-driven” game that is a “focused package” that offers a “cinematic experience.”
With Mafia seemingly set for an August launch,the calendar’s eighth month is shaping up to be quite the month. Previously,Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater was also given an August release. In other words, prepare those wallets.
