Summary
Final Fantasyis absolutely massive, and so isMagic: The Gathering. You can imagine there being a decent amount of crossover between their respective fanbases, sothe upcoming collaboration between the twowas always going to do pretty well for Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast. Turns out, it’s doing extremely well.
During an investor call earlier today (thanks Wargamer), Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks revealed just how well Magic: The Gathering’s big Final Fantasy set is doing now that pre-orders have been open for a little while. Despite not even being in the hands of players yet, Cocks reveals that this Final Fantasy set will be “the best-selling set of all time on day one”.

Magic: The Gathering’s Final Fantasy Set Is Already The Best-Selling MTG Set Ever
In fact, Cocks goes on to reveal that the set “already is”, suggesting that pre-order sales are so strong that the set is already on course to be the most successful set in MTG history. We’ll have to wait for the release for that to be confirmed, as pre-orders numbers can change, but it’s an impressive milestone to hit before the set has even launched.
Now, Final Fantasy has a few things going for it that will have helped it reach this milestone. For starters, it’s quite possibly the biggest crossover that Magic: The Gathering has ever seen, but the increased price compared to similar setswould have contributed too, as fans were upset upon discovering that the Final Fantasy set is priced closer to premium products, despite being Standard-legal.

In any case, this will be great news for Square Enix too, and could potentially pave the way for more crossovers in the future. The gaming giant recently hinted thatit could “revisit” its partnership with Hasbro and Wizards of the Coastin the future, and seeing as though its first collaboration is already so successful, you’d be surprised if Square Enix left it at just Final Fantasy. Dragon Quest crossover anyone?
