Summary
Taking a look at the Limited potential of each set is vital to preparing for your next draft, particularly with aMagic: The Gatheringset like Tarkir: Dragonstorm. With so many incredible cards in the set, boiling them all down to just a couple of highlights wasn’t easy, but a few stand out from the crowd.
Chief among them are the many Dragon cards from Tarkir, whose Omen subtype gives you versatile new ways to cast your spells. There are plenty of other cards to keep an eye out for while building your limited deck, including cards from across all rarities.

8Purging Stormbrood
Draconic Protection
Omen cards in Tarkir: Dragonstorm fill multiple roles in your Limited deck, letting you hang on to them for a bit if you want the creature side, or to cast the generally cheaper omen side for a more immediate need.
Purging Stormbrood is a solid 4/4 Dragon for five-mana that has a surprising ward trigger, something not commonly seen on uncommon cards. If you need to hold up protection you can keep the omen side in your hand you can since it gives a creature +2/+2, lifelink, andhexproof for the turn.

7Twinmaw Stormbrood
Two Heads Are Better Than One
Another solid Dragon and Omen card, Twinmaw Stormbrood and the alternate Charring Bite makes for a duo that can slot into any deck running both red and white to great effect.
Charring Bite is a two-mana omen that deals five damage to a creature without flying. While much of the set is filled to the brim with flying Dragons, there are still plenty of cards that you’ll want to remove on the ground. Twinmaw Stormbrood might not be much on its own, but gaining five life when it comes into play is a huge boon and can go a long way to stabilizing yourself after taking a few hits.

6Molten Exhale
Can’t Have Enough Removal
Speaking of removal spells, Molten Exhale is a very solid choice to pick for anyone running red in their decks, slotting into either a Temur, Jeskai, or Mardu deck easily since they all have access to red mana.
While normally a sorcery, Molten Exhale lets you reveal a Dragon card from your hand to give it flash, which also works if you have a Dragon in play, helping thoseDragon kindred strategies. You can then deal four damage to any creature or planeswalker you want, which is great for finishing off any lingering creatures or planeswalkers after combat..
5Disruptive Stormbrood
Creatures, Artifacts, And Enchantments Aren’t Safe
Removal is the name of the game with Disruptive Stormbrood and its omen counterpart, Petty Revenge. For just two mana you get a solid removal spell, blowing up any creature with a power three or less.
If you don’t have any good targets you can hold out for Disruptive Stormbrood, a smaller dragon with only a 3/3 stat line but it does get to blow up an artifact or enchantment when it comes into play. There are a significant number of relevant enchantments in Tarkir: Dragonstorm, so holding up the little Dragon might be a solid bet anyways.
4Barrensteppe Siege
Two Great Choices
One of the strongest Sieges from Tarkir: Dragonstorm, Barrensteppe Siege is a white and black enchantment that is tuned to either an Abzan or Mardu deck given its flexibility. No matter which option you pick, you’ll have a solid card, but the Abzan choice is particularly good.
At the top of your end step, you get to put a +1/+1 on all of your creatures, which is a huge boon. It will only take a turn or two for even your smallest creature to start to out scale your opponents.
If you go with the Mardu side, and you had a creature die under your control on your turn, you get to make all your opponents sacrifice a creature of their choice, whittling down the board but having a decidedly smaller impact than the Abzan side.
3Static Snare
One Mana Removal
Exile enchantments have become a mainstay in Magic ever since the classic days of Oblivion Ring with the cards getting better and better over the years. Static Snare initially seems like a somewhat bland choice comparatively but reading the card a second time helps reveal its power.
While normally it costs five mana, Static Snare costs one less generic mana for each attacking creature, no matter if the attacking creatures are yours or your opponent’s. That means you’re able to swing in with four creatures and get a one-mana exile effect for some troublesome creature on board, giving you some flexibility in your attacks.
2Scavenger Regent
A Plague On Nondragons
Perhaps the best Dragonand Omen combo is on Scavenger Regent and Exude Toxin, an extremely versatile duo that can be a board wipe if you need it or a threat in the air. Scavenger Regent is fairly straightforward, being a 4/4 Dragon with a ward trigger that can be a hassle for your opponents later in the game.
The more deadly side is Exude Toxin, a sorcery that gives each non-Dragon -X/-X equal to the amount of mana you want to dump into it. You can easily wipe the board of any bothersome Humans or Orcs to make way for your Dragon supremacy.
1Elspeth, Storm Slayer
Pure Power
It should be no surprise that the top card you want to see in your Limited pool is going to be the absolute powerhouse of Elspeth, Storm Slayer. This five-mana planeswalker has a passive ability to double all your tokens, making her a natural fit in any Mardu deck given their penchant for making tokens.
She also makes two tokens at a time with her +1 ability thanks to that passive, making an army out of practically nothing in no time. While her payoff is relatively low ability-wise, since her -3 ability just destroys a creature with a mana value three or more, you do get plenty of chances to use it thanks to the number of high-cost Dragons in the set.
