Summary
Concord’s unfortunate failure could be attributed to a lot of things. It could be general fatigue of PvP shooters, the generic look of it, or the fact that it didn’t do anything different from other hero shooters. Regardless, the game is considered to beone of the most high profile failures in recent history, especially since it was aPlayStationgame.
However, the failure could also be attributed to the marketing behind the game, as not many people even knew about the upcoming title. It looks like a lot of people feel the same way about Bungie’s upcomingMarathon, as it seems to be following a similar path. With not much information about the game, andthe game itself not looking like the promotional material, fans have startedreferring to it as ‘Concord 2.0’. However, an ex-Concord dev wants you to give it a fair chance.

Concord Dev Wants You To Give Marathon A Fair Chance
Bungie gave us a better look at Marathon recently. ThePvP extraction shooteralready has a huge hill to climb, competing with Escape from Tarkov, but the devs feel likeits lower priceandmore approachable formulamay help it carve its own space within the genre. While some fans arealready dismissing it as another PvP failure, ex-Concord VFX artist Stephan Williams has asked fans to keep an open mind.
“After reading the comments about Marathon being Concord 2.0 on reddit, youtube, and twitch, I just wanted to share a little insight into what a forty year old man is feeling after dedicating a large portion of his life to making video games,” said Williams on the Marathon subreddit.

He went on to explain that he understands why Concord was a failure and why it didn’t resonate with players. While he isn’t asking for sympathy, he said that he knows what it’s like to take a chance on a new game and appreciates what the devs at Bungie have done. However, comparing the unreleased game to Concord just isn’t fair.
“I worked on Concord, and did my best. We came up short, please don’t punish others for our mistakes. We are all human beings who are trying to create something special, and Marathon is no different. Be kind, and be cool, as video games are meant to be fun,” he concluded.

Thankfully, the comments were quite supportive of Williams' sentiment. While they acknowledged Concord’s terrible reception, a lot of them agreed that Marathon does not deserve the hate it’s getting, especially because another game performed poorly.
