Nintendopresident Shuntaro Furukawa has responded to claims that theSwitch 2isn’t innovative and claimed thatDonkey Kong BananzaandMario Kart Worldsimply weren’t possible on the originalSwitch.
Ever since the Nintendo Switch 2 wasfinally announced earlier this year and then shown off in a dedicated Direct, there’s been one big discussion taking all of the oxygen in the room -is the console and its games worth the high asking price? While the console itself does look like a big leap forward in power from the original Switch, many were expecting more innovation from Nintendo.

That muted response has also been applied to Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, which most fans seem to agree look great, but not like anything completely groundbreaking for Nintendo that couldn’t be found on the Switch. As it turns out, though, that isn’t the case at all, as Nintendo thinks that both games are only possible on the Switch 2.
Nintendo President Says Mario Kart World And Donkey Kong Bananza Were Only Possible On The Switch 2
Just Look At DK’s Destruction If You Need Proof
As pointed out by Nintendo Everything, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa recently addressed the claims that the Switch 2 and its games aren’t as innovative as many were expecting during a financial results Q&A this week. Furakawa noted that over the years of developing the original Switch, developers needed more processing power and a stronger console to be able to propose “new ways to play”.
This need for more power is exactly what Nintendo aimed to achieve with the Switch 2, which leads Furakawa to note that Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza “have proposed new ways of playing that could not be realised on the Nintendo Switch”. That’s Nintendo speakfor both games only being possible on the Switch’s successor.
This time, we aimed to design hardware with a large capacity in terms of processing power. We believe that Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza have proposed new ways of playing that could not be realized on the Nintendo Switch. - Shuntaro Furukawa
Furukawa also responded to the claims that the Switch 2 doesn’t innovate enough on the original console, pointing out that while it “may not look like it has changed much”, the hardware and peripherals have been redesigned and filled with “ingenuity”. The president of Nintendo ended his statement by saying that they want to make the Switch 2 the “new standard” for Nintendo Switch overall.
I’ve played both Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza andagree that what they do with the improved tech wasn’t possible on the original Switch, even if they don’t seem that boundary-breaking for Nintendo.
