Summary
Just as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west,Star Warsprojectscontinue to be announced and come out like clockwork.Whether it’s a solo Mandalorian film, a Darth Maul TV series or a new trilogy, new Star Wars projects aren’t stopping anytime soon, and that’s just the film and TV sector.
That said, if you were hoping to see Mark Hamill reprise his role as Luke Skywalker, then think again. According to the iconic actor, he’s done putting on the Jedi robes.
Star Wars Has Been Criticized For Over-Reliance On Familiar Characters
In speaking with Comicbook.com to promote his new movie, Hamill shared his appreciation for being part of the Star Wars franchise, though noted it’s high time that new characters take the spotlight.
“I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars ‘The most expensive low-budget movie ever made,'” Hamill said. “We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that.
“But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.”
If a desire to see new characters become the focal point wasn’t enough, Hamill also had this to say about not wanting to return as Luke: “And by the way, when I disappeared in [The Last Jedi], I left my robes behind. And there’s no way I’m gonna appear as a naked Force ghost.”
Yeah, we reckon even the most ardent Star Wars fans will pass on seeing that version of Luke.
Should Hamill’s wishes be respected, then his last rendition of Luke would have been a LEGO Star Wars miniseries back in 2024, while his last film appearance was The Rise of Skywalker. We’ll pretend the digital versions of Luke don’t exist.
