Summary

Marvel Rivalsis just about winding down Season 1.5 at the moment, with the announcement of Season 2 dropping on April 11.In the trailer for the season, we see that Emma Frost will be the next hero added to the game, as the Hellfire Gala are going up against the forces of Ultron. Pretty exciting stuff, and every character is decked out in finery that will ensure my wallet remains empty for the foreseeable future.

Following the trailer,NetEase released a new developer videoexplaining exactly what players can expect in Season 2 and beyond, including new Team-Up abilities, costume coloring, the addition of bans in ranked starting in Gold (finally), and a lot more. However, the video started with a little teaser for Season 3, as NetEase has announced some changes to how seasons and character additions will work going forward.

Marvel Rivals Is Getting A New Character Every Month Starting In Season 3

In what is going to be a massive shake-up for the game going forward, NetEase has revealed that seasons will be shifting to a two-month format, and a new hero will be introduced each month, starting in Season 3. NetEase explains that it’s doing this to try and recapture some of the excitement that surrounded the game back when it first launched.

“Since the launch of Season 1, we’ve been deeply contemplating how Marvel Rivals can continuously deliver fun and engaging experiences for you all. During this time, several discussions on social media have certainly added some pressure on us to keep the game as exciting as it has been since December. To a certain extent, we agree.”

It would have been interesting to see exactly which discussions on social media have affected the thinking at NetEase, but there have been complaints about the gamenot having enough enticing Vanguards and Strategists, which undoubtedly contributes to the insta-locking DPS epidemic the game has. Hopefully, this is NetEase’s way of cramming more Vanguards and Strategists in, and the introduction of Emma Frost next week is a good start.
