Summary

It’s not easy to keep a live game chugging. You needdedicated devs continuously working to put out the next event,a fan base that loves your game so muchthat it continues to play even during lulls, and a pool of content you can constantly draw from.Marvel Rivalshas all these three and more. However, even the infallible folks at NetEase can fumble.

The Hellfire Gala was one of the most anticipated events in the game. Like in the comics, it brought with it stunning outfits for each character, akin to what they’d wear on the superhero red carpet. But it would appear that players have an issue with the way the event itself rolls out. The fact that each act is time gated has annoyed a number of fans.

Players Hate Waiting For The Next Act Of The Hellfire Gala In Marvel Rivals

The Hellfire Gala event is divided into three acts. Completing objectives for the first act will unlock the next act, or so the game says. It seems that even if you complete all the objectives. You still need to wait for the next act to unlock at a set time. This has rubbed some players the wrong way, especially those that can’t put in the hours whenever they feel like it.

This is a tactic by the devs to ensure that players don’t blaze through the event and then have to wait around for the next bit of content. However, this strategy needs to be balanced carefully, with enough content for each act, or you risk players finishing an act with nothing left to do but wait. This is exactly what is happening with Marvel Rivals' Hellfire Gala event at the moment.

“I’ve been playing since the beta and I’ve never once had trouble unlocking the event missions. But this one was so poorly worded and obtuse,” said one annoyed fan on Reddit. “The act 2 quests are in another screen and the 4/4 gifts thing is extremely misleading. Not to mention there’s different currencies. I assumed I was done with act 2 by getting all the cards and waited for act 3 to unlock for everyone. Instead it’s time gated after you complete act 2?”

A mix of unclear instructions and time gated events has annoyed fans. Many have complained that they get only a few hours to play, and these kinds of mechanics do not value their time. “These “self-imposed” timegates are really strange. I can understand general timegates, but ones that start depending on when the individual player completes something is really clunky and awkward,” said one comment.

“Everything is to force you to spend time playing and unlocking ASAP. As a 43 year old with kids who can barely find a handful of hours a week, it’s really disappointing,” said another. GivenNetEase’s history of incorporating player feedback, this issue will hopefully be addressed for the next event.
