Summary

We’re almost at the halfway point ofMarvel Rivalsseason two, which means a new character, and a ton of tweaks and balances, are coming our way. We’ve known for a while that the next new character will be Ultron, however, it wasn’t until now that fans noticed similarities between Ultron and another strategist villain on the Rivals roster, leading to a theory as to who might be coming next.

Ultron will be a strategist, which, if you’re familiar with what the evil AI is capable of, might be a little surprising. The villain will be hovering over the battlefield, healing his allies. Ultron and Loki have that in common, apart from the hovering part. Again, inMCUterms, which is what most fans are familiar with, Loki is more prone to do harm than good, hence the decision to make him and Ultron characters who should be focused on healing a little odd.

Twitter accountMarvel Rivals Guideshas pointed out that Loki is the main villain in the first Avengers movie, and Ultron is the primary threat Earth’s Mightiest Heroes need to deal with in its sequel, Age of Ultron. Following that thread, they’ve spun a theory that a third villainous MCU strategist might be in the offing for Marvel Rivals, that being The Mad Titan hellbent on cutting the universe’s population in half, Thanos.

Thanos Will Be Added To Marvel Rivals Eventually

He’s Inevitable

Not only do a lot of fellow Rivals players appear to agree with the theory, but they’ve been sharing some fun ways what Thanos is best-known for could be incorporated into his move set. The best idea I’ve seen so far is the Titan’s ultimate being his Snap, wiping out half of his enemies, but also half his allies at the same time. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be."

That wouldn’t be a very strategist-centric ult, so not in-keeping with the theory. However, others have pointed out that the game is lacking a vanguard strategist, and Thanos fits the bill. Most of the game’s current strategists are effectively duelists with the ability to help others in terms of how much punishment they can take. A beefy Thanos holding the line while he tries to keep everyone alive would be quite something.

This is all a theory for now, and if you’re on the lookout for a new healer, you’ll need to settle for Ultron when he flies into Marvel Rivals on May 30. You may well be on the lookout got a replacement strategist if you’re a Jeff main, asthe land shark’s upcoming midseason rework has really upset his fans.
