Summary

A Minecraft Moviehasproven to be an absolute hit, despite all of thenegativity before its premiere. Now, fans can’t get enough of it, proudly showing up to screenings to yell, cheer, throw popcorn around, and in one instance, bring a live chicken into the theatre.

Needless to say, some think that it’s all being taken too far. Of course, all of that popcorn being thrown at the screen has to be cleaned up by someone, and the workers tasked with it are almost definitely not getting paid enough to deal with this. However, some think that it’s all good fun - including A Minecraft Movie’s director, Jared Hess.

Minecraft Movie Director Says The Fan Reactions Are “Way Too Funny”

As spotted byEurogamer, Hess addressed this phenomenon in an interview withthe New York Times.

“It’s way too funny,” says Hess. “It’s been a total blast. I’m just laughing my brains out every time someone sends me a new video.

“Just the fact that people are making memories at the movies - that’s what it’s all about,” he continues. “That’s why we do it. I never could have anticipated this level of passion and fun and craziness that’s happening.”

And what of all the popcorn getting flung around? Well, Hess has something to say about that as well. “No one’s going to get hurt from popcorn,” he argues. “When I go to the movies with my kids, it’s like a popcorn massacre that happens and they’re not throwing anything, but it ends up on the ground, regardless.”

I would argue that quite a bit more popcorn ends up on the floor when everyone is actively throwing it on the screen, but sure.

Hess isn’t the only one who feels this way, as Warner Bros. marketing executive vice president Dana Nussbaum says that this is all a “testament to the game’s loyal fan base”.

Meanwhile, cinema employees have largely had enough of this “loyalty” from the fan baseand would like everyone to start behaving themselves. In one instance, a screening was so rowdy that thepolice were called, so it doesn’t look like this trend is going anywhere anytime soon.
