Monster Hunter Wildsrevealed its flagship monster a bit too early. Arkveld, along with its chain-like appendages, was available for players to hunt in the beta. While many think it was a mistake to reveal the cover monster so early, the game’s success speaks for itself,selling ten million copies in the first month since launch.
However, while Arkveld featured a unique design and abilities, it seems Monster Hunter Wilds players' hearts reside with another monster. Rey Dau, while relatively straightforward in design, has some of the coolest abilities in the series. A railgun attack as well as the ability to resuscitate itself with lightning has made a lot of players feel like it should get the flagship spot over Arkveld.
Rey Dau Is The Fans' Flagship Monster In Monster Hunter Wilds
Over on the Monster Hunter subreddit, the aptly namedRathalos-487asked what players think of Arkveld one month after the game’s launch. It seems most of them aren’t too happy with Arkveld taking the top spot in Wilds. After dealing with an angry, Elder-Dragon-eating hedgehog in Monster Hunter World, Arkveld seems kind of a downgrade.
A few comments pointed out that Arkveld was programmed with too few turf wars with other monsters, and eventually, the discussion shifted towards how Rey Dau was more deserving of being on the cover and being called the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Wilds.
“Rey Dau is just cooler to me tbh. Like a literal rail gun as a monster,” said one comment. “From the sound design to the monster, just so cool. Also the fact that it’s the only monster in the game that literally resuscitated itself from death. That was just so f***ing metal.”
“I was farming both last night, and while Arkveld’s concept is cool and it’s a fun fight, Rey Dau is just so much cooler and fighting it makes you feel so much more badass,” said another. “It’s like, who’s cooler? The chains and whips dom dragon? Or the f***ing flying rail gun dragon who you fight with a bunch of lightning striking all over the battlefield?”
It seems players prefer almost everything about Rey Dau, especially the fact that it could defibrillate itself with its lightning abilities.
