Despite what you might think, if you’re trying to determine what the cutest monsters are inDungeons & Dragons, you don’t actually need to extend your definition that far. Sure, the definition of ‘cute’ is definitely in the eye of the beholder but… there are some monsters that are winning the cute competition sooner rather than later.

In fact, they’re so cute and adorable that you may not even want to fight them. Maybe all you want to do is befriend them and ensure that they live a long and happy life, and you know what, they’re cute enough to deserve it.

Two Twig Blights with beady red eyes preparing to attack.

10Twig Blight

Just A Bunch Of Sticks

Sure, the Twig Blight is technically evil, but it’s also undeniably the cutest of the blights and most plant monsters, really. They’re tiny things that aren’t all that intimidating, especially given that they only have a Challenge Rating of 1/8.

A whole swarm of them might be slightly less adorable, but if you have just one on its own, it could become a really endearing and slightly violent pet that the whole party would love. Plus, given that they understand common, you could even teach them a few tricks; assuming, of course, that you’re able to find a treat that they respond well to.

Dungeons & Dragons, the Blink Dog racing forward, with magical energy flowing over it, by John Patrick Ganas.

Blink Dogs were not always some of the cutest monsters in the Monster Manual, but with the release of the 2025 Monster Manual, their upgraded appearance definitely ranks them among the top. Blink Dogs are fluffy little things, with brilliant glowing patterns, and a lawful good nature, which makes them the good-est boys and girls around.

Plus, the imagery that they can provide is absurdly adorable, given that when they get overly excited, they just start teleporting around, popping in and out of existence, unable to contain their joy. Of course, if you do want to train a Blink Dog, you better hope that someone is able to speak Elvish or Sylvan, given that they’re typically found in a Feywild setting.

Dungeons & Dragons, a copper dragon wyrmling with its wings spread, a book in its claws, and nearby creatures looking inquisitive by Svetlin Velinov.

8Copper Dragon Wyrmling

They Just Want To Make Friends And To Learn

The Copper Dragon Wyrmling is a cute, curious little thing that seeks out knowledge and friends. Of course, its curiosity can land it in more than a few troublesome or dangerous situations, but anyone who helps out the poor thing might just have a dragon friend for life.

The bigger a Copper Dragon gets the less “cute” it will become, given that cuteness and tininess tend to go hand-in-hand. However, when it’s just a curious little wyrmling, running around and looking to explore the world, it is an undeniably adorable creature.

Dungeons & Dragons, Faerie Dragons sitting on a branch, looking very smug by Jesper Ejsing.

7Faerie Dragons

Cat-Like Chaotic Good Dragons

Faerie Dragons are basically your equivalent of fantasy cats. While cats do technically exist in Dungeons & Dragons as one of the better familiar options a magic user can have, the Faerie Dragon is like if you put the size and personality of a particularly playful cat into a dragonlike creature.

These tiny, brightly colored creatures are cute as a button, especially when you keep in mind that they really don’t mean you any harm, so long as you don’t mean them any harm. They’re exceptionally dexterous and smart, and their colorful and fun nature makes themperfect for a forest or jungle setting.

Dungeons & Dragons, a Flumph looking absolutely delighted by Axel Defois.

6Flumph

Just Say The Name And You’ll Understand

These bizarre little creatures are weirdly adorable, and you don’t even need to stretch the definition of ‘cute’ to classify them as such. They have happy little faces, they change colors, and they seem like they would make the most adorable trilling noise when they’re communicating with you.

Flumphs live in psychically charged areas of the Underdark, which makes them one of the very few things thatyou actually want to encounter in the Underdark. They generally avoid combat and are super helpful (or, at least, they try to be).

A group of kobolds construct a barricade in Dungeons & Dragons.

5Kobolds

They’re A Bunch Of Little Friends

Look, Kobolds are not traditionally cute or adorable, but if you just have a little bit of faith and don’t attempt to squash the little guys immediately, they are actually kind of cute. They’re basically tiny dragons who are slightly less inclined to immediately murder you, given that most of them are well aware that they don’t stand much of a chance on their own.

The fact that they’re also sentient means that you could easily befriend a kobold, and then you have a little buddy who will help you out. Plus, Kobolds are ingenious and are constantly engineering traps and schemes that could come to your benefit if you befriend these cute buddies.

Mushroom like creatures called Myconids in Dungeons & Dragons.

4Myconids

Mystical Mushroom Mates

This is one where you might need to stretch your definition of what is ‘cute’ just a little bit, solely for the reason that not everyone might find the Myconids cute. However, if you happen to like mushrooms or that cottagecore aesthetic, you will absolutely love the myconids.

They’re basically walking mushrooms that are (mostly) friendly and, because they’re technically a hivemind, if you do one a favor you’ve earned the favor of most of them. They’re also a wonderfully colorful colony, inhabiting the Underdark and making for a pleasant reprieve from the overall gloom of the Underdark.

Owlbear from Dungeons & Dragons.

3Owlbear

Fiercely Cute

Yes, an Owlbear could probably kill you, but that doesn’t stop it from being friend-shaped and very cute. If you weren’t meant to find the Owlbear cute, then something like Baldur’s Gate 3 wouldn’t allow you to have an Owlbear cub as one of the camp pets.

Even in the 2025 Monster Manual, the Owlbear’s depiction, while threatening, is still cute and so fluffy - one can’t help but want to run their fingers through the owlbear’s feathers and to be its beak. They make the most adorable noises and can be incredibly helpful, so long as you don’t prove to be a threat to their life, at least.

An adventurer riding on a pegasus as it soars through the air.

2Pegasus

So Long As You’re Not Scared Of Heights

The Pegasus is undeniably majestic and ethereal, as a horse who can do the unthinkable and soar through the skies. If you’re scared of heights (and of horses) you might find this inclusion from the 2025 Monster Manual to be slightly more intimidating than cute, but the fact stands that it is indeed cute.

Just imagine a Pegasus prancing around with joy, oh so happy to show off for you and everyone around, head held high and wings flared out in a glorious display. Although if you’re not particularly virtuous, the Pegasus might end up being less cute and more horrifically dangerous to hang out around.

Dungeons & Dragons, the Pseudodragon crouching down on a book, prepared to pounce, by Crystal Sully.

1Pseudodragon

Much Friendlier (And Tinier) Than Most Other Dragons

The Pseudodragon isn’t technically a dragon and, despite being able to be depicted as chromatic or metallic, it’s going to be friendly all around. Its friendly demeanor and small size make the Psuedodragon the perfect familiar, and the fact that it is undeniably cute and cuddly makes it all the more desirable.

They’ll never get larger than a house cat, though they can certainly be mischievous enough, depending on the Pseudodragon. They’re incredibly smart, which makes them devious little creatures who will probably be inclined to start a little hoard of their own. Really, everything about them is little, which makes them even cuter.
