Summary

Nintendohas released a statement confirming that pre-orders for theSwitch 2in the US will no longer go live on April 9 so that it can “assess the potential impact of tariffs”.

Earlier this week,Nintendo hosted the biggest Direct it’s ever had to officially unveil the successor to the Nintendo Switch, the aptly-named Nintendo Switch 2. That Direct revealed pretty much everything we needed to know about the console, from its first year of exclusive gamesand technical capabilities,to its gimmicks and third-party support.

The one thing that strangely wasn’t revealed during the Direct wasthe console’s price, which is retailing for $450 in the US. This announcement has mostly been met with negativity and surprise, although a lot of people suggested that the high cost of the console and its games isdue to Nintendo considering the impact of Trump’s recent tariffs.

Nintendo Is Delaying US Pre-Orders Of The Switch 2 Due To Trump’s Tariffs

The Release Date In The US Remains Unchanged, However

It turns out that’s not the case, though, as Nintendo has confirmed that it’s only now assessing the impact that Trump’s tariffs might have on the console. As pointed out by Twitter user and gaming reporter Tamoor Hussain, a statement has been shared that confirms the pre-order window for the Switch 2 in the US has been pushed back.

The statement says that pre-orders for the console are no longer going to start on April 9 like they were previously said to and that themove is being made to “assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions”. The timing for pre-orders will be shared at a later date, but the release of the console isn’t being moved.

What this essentially means is that the Switch 2 is likely having its price changed to reflect the tariffs that Trump has started to introduce, which means the console is likely to be much more expensive in the United States. We’ll share more details on the new price as soon as Nintendo confirms it, but it’s not looking good.

It looks like the price is going to stay the same in the UK, at least, as pre-orders for the console have already starting going live over the past few days.
