Summary

By now, it’s no secret that existingNintendo Switchgameswill be backwards compatibleon the upcomingNintendo Switch 2. Some of those gameswill even get Switch 2 Editions, featuring enhancements and, in some cases, extra content.

That said, afterNintendofans found out that the Switch 2 edition ofThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildwould notinclude the game’s DLC, despite its $70 pricetag, they were none too pleased with the news. Taking to Reddit, they aired out their grievances at a Nintendo they feel is becoming increasingly “greedy.”

Some Are Calling It “Greed Of The Wild”

For background, the Nintendo Switch 2 copy of Breath of the Wild will run gamers $69.99.The DLC, featuring The Master Trials and The Champions' Ballad, is an extra $19.99, bringing the total cost to $89.98.

If you buy theregular Nintendo Switch copy of Breath of the Wild for $59.99, thenthe Switch 2 upgrade route is an additional $10, plus the aforementioned $19.99 DLC, giving you the same total cost.

In neither situation is the DLC included on the Switch 2 cart or as part of the Switch 2 upgrade.

“Whoever made this decision is clearly out of their minds,“one user wrote. Separately, another user opted to call the game"Greed of the Wild.”

Another user had an interesting point of view, “Isn’t that a missed opportunity for new players to get the full BotW experience right out of the gate?” That’s a very solid point, though unless things are changed, the full experience will be $90 on top of the Switch 2 price.

Other gamers took issue not only with the fact that the DLC still won’t be included, but that the game wouldn’t be “enhanced” without the upgrade path. “Imagine if Steam charged you for upgrading your graphics card,“a user wrote.

No matter which way you slice it, there’s no doubt that this latest move has not been well-received by fans. That, plus the overall cost of the system, has created a rather contentious pre-launch environment.
