Summary

Earlier today,Nintendodelighted fans with its bigSwitch 2showcase, revealing new details on titles we already knew about, while sprinkling in some exciting new game announcements.Mario Kart World was one game featured, which will be the next installment in the franchise, and a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2.

There was a lot of excitement and buzz coming off of the Direct, but Nintendo has managed to thoroughly squash it by revealing just how much we’re going to have to pay to playMario Kart World. If you want to buy Mario Kart World on its own,it will set you back $80, which makes it the first game to charge that price in today’s industry.

Nintendo Fans Are Furious Following Mario Kart World’s Price Reveal

That on its own would have been enough to rile up some Nintendo fans, but the matter has now been made worse, as it seems as though Nintendo will start charging more money for physical games, starting with the Nintendo Switch 2. If you want a physical copy of Mario Kart World, you’re looking at parting with $90 instead. Similarly, the newly announced Donkey Kong Bananza will cost $70 digitally, but will set you back $80 if you want a physical.

It’s the same in other territories too, as a Mario Kart World physical will cost €90 compared to the €80 digital editions, while the digital version of Mario Kart World in the UK will cost roughly £67, but £75 for the physical. You can probably imagine that Nintendo fans aren’t very happy.

You won’t struggle to find legions of upset fans on social media, which include the likes of Reddit user SilvaVE_. They claim that the game’s pricing is “really f***ing crazy”, and the thread is full of other people claiming they have gone from “can’t wait to preorder, to nope, not getting that”. One Reddit user called Thelastfirecircle goes as far as calling it “a scam”.

There are already plenty of calls to boycott the game entirely, and many are convinced that Nintendo will drop the price before release later this year. You hope they will anyway, as we know that Nintendo is notoriously stingy when it comes to reducing the prices of its games later down the line. Suddenly,$100 for GTA 6 is starting to look a lot more feasible.
