Summary

The concept of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has existed for some time, manifesting in various efforts to ensure equal access to opportunities in different industries.Attacks on these idealsare also nothing new. However, in recent years, right-wing groups have started to attack DEI specifically, and the acronym has now become a stand-in for wokeness, political correctness, and other terms that are used foranything diverse.

The re-election of President Donald Trump prompted many companies to abandon their DEI practices, with a list of the most notable examples put together byForbes. Despite this,Nintendowill not be one of them, withNintendo of America CEO Doug Bowsersaying that diversity has always been, and will continue to be, part of the company’s values.

The text reads: “We believe that our results are better when our teams represent our potential consumers and fans. We’re actively building a culture where employees contribute their knowledge, ideas, and perspectives so innovation and creativity thrive. We’re welcoming, approachable and respectful – we’re Nintendo. All characters welcome."

Nintendo Hasn’t Dropped DEI Practices In Response To Trump’s Re-Election

Nintendo of America’s website still has its page on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

This comes from the Brazilian news outletFolha de S.Paulo, in an interview spotted byResetEra user RandomlyRandom67. Here, Bowser was asked if Nintendo has made any changes to its practices in response to Trump’s pressure.

“We always want to attract the best talent we can and retain that talent,” Bowser explains. “We also believe that it’s important for those talents to be diverse from the point of view of their backgrounds, their experiences, and their understandings because our players are diverse. So we strive to have a diversity that reflects our players in our organisation.

“This is something that has been in place for years, before people really started using the acronym DEI. And it will continue to be in place. It’s important to us.”

True enough, Nintendo of America’s careers section still hasits page on DEI, which has remained unchanged since Trump’s re-election. So, it seems that the company won’t be making changes throughout this administration, since those who have capitulated were quite quick to do so.
