Summary
Nintendohas kicked off a series ofSwitch 2Experiences, with fans able to try out the next-gen console for themselves. It kicked off in New York this weekend, with crowds gathering to get their hands on the long-awaitedSwitchsuccessor.
However, this wasn’t the only reason people were gathering in New York this weekend. Yesterday, thousands upon thousands amassed across 1,200 locations throughout the US to protest against President Donald Trump, with one such location being New York. During the demonstration, the protest marched right outside the Switch 2 Experience, crowding the event.

Huge Anti-Trump Protest Coincides With Switch 2 Event
No, the crowds were not protesting the Switch 2’s price
Videos can be found across social media, as those waiting outside of the Switch 2 Experience captured the moment that the protest marched by. As you can see, the crowds are huge, as thousands gathered to protest many of the Trump administration’s actions, namely the cuts to government spending and the immigration raids against those on student visas, as reported by theBBC.
Despite some claims to the contrary on social media, the protest was not against the Switch 2. There’s also no confirmation that this route was chosen specifically to go past the event, so it could all be coincidental - it’s just a very amusing coincidence.
That said, a Switch 2 event and an anti-Trump protest aren’t exactly unrelated right now. Earlier this week,Nintendo revealed that it was delaying Switch 2 pre-orders in the USin response to the tariffs rolled out by the Trump administration. This delay is so that Nintendo can assess the impact of the tariffs, suggesting thatthe console’s already high pricecould rise even further in the region.
The ESA has alreadywarned that this will be an industry-wide issue, so we’ll have to see how this affects other platforms. In the meantime, Switch 2 pre-orders open on April 9.
