Summary
As we inch closer to the launch of theNintendo Switch 2on June 5, people around the world continue to get their hands on the upcoming console viaNintendo’s Switch 2 Experiences. The Switch 2 tour rolled through Tokyo at the weekend, where one attendee beatBreath of the Wilddespite only being given 10 minutes with the upgraded version of the game.
Speedrunner Ikaboze has uploaded their time with the enhanced version of the gameon their YouTube channelfor those wondering how exactly they managed to beat the game so quickly. They didn’t even need their whole timeslot to rid Hyrule of Calamity Ganon. They wrapped things up with a few minutes to spare which might have some of you familiar withBreath of the Wild’s speedrun timesscratching your heads.

How long Ikaboze was given with the demo is unclear.Initial reports courtesy of Nintendealclaim they had a 20-minute window, whileVGC reportsthat the pressure was really on as they only had ten minutes to get it done.
The current world record speedrun in Breath of the Wild is just shy of 23 minutes, meaning if Ikaboze had beaten it within their allotted Switch 2 Experience time, they’d have smashed that record. This is not a case of the faster load times and smoother framerate drastically increasing how quickly you can get through this iconic game, though. It’s the save they were given that provided the speedrunner with some significant advantages.
Give A Speedrunner Ten Minutes With Breath Of The Wild On Switch 2
They Only Need Eight Of Them To Show You Something Special
Ikaboze is able to load up a ready-made save that not only puts them right outside of Hyrule Castle, but also gives them their pick of equipment before they head inside for the game’s final boss. They shed their armor before getting started and then proceed to play through the game’s closing battle, defeating Ganon in less than ten minutes and likely leaving the Nintendo employees watching in a state of shock.
So no, Ikaboze technically didn’t play through the whole game and set an incredible new speedrun record for Breath of the Wild. But hey, it seems incredibly likely that they’re the first person in the world to have kind of beaten its Switch 2 version. There are a lot of detractors in the reply to the Nintendeal post, pointing out why the run isn’t as impressive as you might think. I’d put money on no one leaving those replies having the ability to replicate what Ikaboze did under those circumstances.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the Breath of the Wild speedrun scene once its Switch 2 edition launches along with the new console on June 5. The enhancements might mean the new version needs a speedrun chart of its own. If the Switch 2 runs are mixed in with the existing ones, it seems inevitable that they will eventually all be pushed out by the incoming Switch 2 runs.
