Summary

Nintendowill hold a Direct for theSwitch 2next week, during which we will likely get a release date for the new console alongside a first look at some of its launch line-up. What Nintendo hasn’t revealed at this stage is when pre-orders will go live, although Best Buy may have just done that for them.

In preparation for next week’s Switch 2 Direct - not to be confused with the regular Switch Direct taking place today -Best Buy Canada has published a blog postdetailing everything we know about the console so far. That makes sense since some of its customers likely aren’t as clued-up on the Switch 2 as those of us who have been locked in to every single leak for the past year or more.

However, if you scroll to the bottom of the page, which is surprisingly still live and unaltered at the time of typing this, you’ll find an entire section dedicated to pre-order details about the Switch 2. Before you get too excited, there’s nothing about the price of Nintendo’s next console - there’s a chance even Best Buy doesn’t know that yet. However, according to the post, Swicth 2 consoles will beavailable to pre-order through Best Buy Canada from April 2.

Best Buy Seems To Think It Knows When We Can Start Pre-Ordering Switch 2s

And Since It Will Be Selling Them, I Think I Believe It

If that information is correct, that almost certainly means they’ll be available to pre-order everywhere on that day. Hard to imagine Best Buy Canada has that good of a relationship with Nintendo.

April 2 is the same day as the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct which is slated to begin at 9 am EST. That means there are two possible explanations here. The first is that Best Buy has seen Nintendo’s plans and assumed pre-orders will go live on the same day that the Switch 2’s release date is likely revealed. That seems like an incredibly risky move considering the unknown information and moving parts involved.

The second possibility is Best Buy has been told limited information about the Switch 2, and even though that information doesn’t include how much the console will cost, the chain has been told when it can start accepting pre-orders. Best Buy will have to make allowances for an influx of traffic and have the store page for the Switch 2 ready to go, so it makes sense it would know when pre-orders will go live. If the date is accurate, Nintendo won’t be happy that it has leaked early. For now, though, it might be too busy preparing for today’s Switch Direct which, at the time of typing this, is less than an hour way.
