Updated at 07:48 on Jul 29, 2025:The Xbox Support Twitter account is now telling people Oblivion Remastered will be released on Jul 08, 2025. However, since the account’s chat appears to be AI-powered, it’s possible it’s just pulling that date from Google results following rumors the game will be released next week. Summary
Rumors thatBethesdamight be working on anOblivionremake have been circulating for two years despite neither Bethesda norXboxever mentioning it. Despite no official word, insiders are now convinced that the theoretical remake won’t only be revealed next week, but shadowdropped so we’ll all be able to start playing right away.
I know what you’re thinking - we’ve been here before. Relatively recently, actually, as there was a rumor earlier this monthsuggesting the Oblivion remake would shadowdrop on April 3. That wound up being an inaccurate claim. The difference with these updated claims pointing to next week is that multiple insiders have corroborated them, including someone who has purposefully kept their claims vague.

The April 3 date came from leakerDetective Seedswho has sinceapologized and claimed the remake will drop during the week of April 21, possibly afterThe Elder Scrolls Onlineanniversary event ends on April 22. After initially getting the date wrong, some might be skeptical of Detective Seeds' latest claims. However, those claims have now been backed up by Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb.
It Seems Very Likely The Oblivion Remake Will Be Revealed And Released Next Week
For Real This Time, Almost Definitely, Maybe
Grubb has mentioned the Oblivion remake before, however, until now, he stuck to a vague release window of April. That was until Monday’s Game Breaking News during which he narrowed that window down to align with the claims made by Detectice Seeds. Grubb has also confirmed he has been told the Oblivion remake will shadow drop at some point next week.
The week of 21st April, so basically, the last week of this month, next week essentially. [Oblivion] should shadow drop then, which I think other people have said, but I got separate confirmation that that’s going to be the case.
It might seem a little odd for a project of this size to be shadowdropped without any build, but it’s not out of the ordinary for Xbox. Grubb compared the situation toNinja Gaiden 2 Blackwhich was released right after it was revealed earlier this year. Xbox also did the same thing withHi-Fi Rushin 2023.
It has been more than 13 years sinceSkyrimwas released, and I wouldn’t recommend thinking too hard about how far awayThe Elder Scrolls 6still is. Bethesda needs to give something to fans of the series to tide them over while it continues work on the next game. Remakes might be the best way to go, and Oblivion is the most logical place to start. That does mean we might be living in a world where a Skyrim remake is a possibility. That might sound wild, but far newer games have already been given the remake treatment.
