Summary
A whole lot of us have been playingOblivion Remasteredthis week. In fact, there are already more than four million of us exploring Cyrodiil, many of us returning after years of playing the original release. That means that we’veseen the tutorialmore times than we can count, but have to make our way through it anyway.
Now, less than a week after launch, we already have a fix for this.Alternative Startby Nexus Mods user cookiedoughnexus. This mod lets you arrive in Cyrodiil by ship, meaning that you skip the prison sequence entirely. Sure, this means you never meet the Emperor in the usual manner, but it also means that you don’t have to fight your way through the same dungeon again, being taught mechanics that you already understand perfectly well.

This Oblivion Remastered Mod Lets You Jump Straight Into Cyrodiil
On the ship, you design your character and pick your class and birthsign. Then, you fill out the rest of your stats the first time you rest in a bed. This rest should also trigger a dream sequence involving the Emperor, giving you the Amulet of Kings so you can continue with the main story as you would usually.
Not only does this give you the benefit of skipping through the lengthy tutorial, but it also opens up more roleplaying opportunities, since you get involved with the main quest slightly differently. You also get to skip having that guy in the cell opposite you hurl an insult at you for absolutely no reason whatsoever, which is always nice. Although, admittedly, that is often the only way you’re getting any variance with the vanilla opening.

In any case, it’s impressive to see an alternative start mod up and running so quickly. Oblivion Remastered is made in a completely different engine, so mods have to be remade, and itdoesn’t even have official mod support. Even so, many fans have already started making them, and there are 824 on Nexus Mods at the time of writing.
