TheNirnrootHunting Quest Is One Of Oblivion’s Most Annoying, And New Players Are About To Discover That

The Seeking Your Roots quest begins as soon as players stumble across their firstNirnroot. They’re then prompted to find an alchemist, who sends them away to find ten of the ingredient. Upon their return, they’re sent to find 20 more, then 30 more, and finally, another 40. It’s a frustrating back-and-forth, having to look for one of Cyrodiil’s more uncommon plants.

As players stumble further into Oblivion, more are picking up the quest, which has generated quite the discussion onReddit. Those who have been through the pain are excited to see newcomers experience the same, while openly dreading it themselves.

The thread, which excitedly exclaims, “Time to traumatize a new generation,” has multiple comments from players reminiscing about the quest. While some are quick to mock new players about the stresses they have to come, others are willing to lend a hand, providing advice about how to spot the infamous plant, and different locations from which they can be grabbed.

Kryptnytmockingly said, “It’s not pain, it’s a lovely stroll along the rivers and lakes of the world. Sometimes you bring mudcrab friends with you. Sometimes you get distracted and go into a cave that has nothing in it,” while Yonni95said, “People who complain about Blackreach in Skyrim don’t know how bad it could be lol.”

It’s an annoying quest, made slightly simpler by today’s prevalence of guides, but it’s one that will live long in Oblivion folklore.
