Summary
Oblivion Remasteredhas been an even bigger hit than anyone expected.Bethesdaalready confirmedmore than four million of us played it during its first week, now we know a lot of people paid for the privilege rather than relying on Game Pass.
That’s thanks toindustry analyst Matt Piscatellawho revealedthe Oblivion remaster is already the third best-selling game of 2025, and that’s only based on figures from the game’s first week. The only two games released this year to have outsold Oblivion Remastered at this stage areAssassin’s Creed ShadowsandMonster Hunter Wilds.

Piscatella doesn’t divulge exactly how many copies have been sold so far. He also notes that these numbers are based on dollar sales and use numbers from the US only. However, it’s possible to estimate how many copies of Oblivion Remastered have been sold based on the data we have, both from Piscatella and elsewhere.
A Lot Of People Have Been Playing The Oblivion Remaster
Not Just On Game Pass, But Paying The Full $50 For It
Shadows is the second best-sellling game of 2025 so far, andaccording to GameSpot,Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2is now fourth after the Oblivion remaster. The Kingdom Come sequel has sold more than three million copies, which likely means Oblivion Remastered has sold north of that. It might also mean Shadows has sold closer to four million, if not more, although there are mixed reports regarding how successful the latestUbisoftgame has been.
That might even mean more people have been willing to pay for a copy of Oblivion Remastered than have resorted to playing it throughGame Pass. Since it’s also available onPS5, that makes a lot of sense, especially considering how well it has been selling on Xbox’s rival platform.PlayStation revealed its best-sellers for April this week, and there are three Xbox-published games in the top three positions with Oblivion at number one.

Where exactly Oblivion will fall come the end of 2025 could, and likely will, all change between now and December. Not only do you have something likeSplit Fictionwhich has already sold in the millions andstill has a Switch 2 launch to come, but there’s everything else releasing on theSwitch 2year one that will undoubtedly sell well. Yes, we’re all complaining aboutMario Kart World’s $80 price tag, but if there’s a game out there I’m looking forward to more, I’m yet to hear about it. At leastGTA 6 is no longer a factor after being delayed until May 2026.
