After five years of waiting, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is finally hereand the critical reception seems pretty positive. As someone who followed the series passionately during the Ezio days but fell off when Ubisoft transitioned it into sprawling action RPGs, I was hoping for Shadows to ignite that same passion I once had. In fact, it’s not just that I find this modern take on the series to be run-of-the-mill open-world games; I’ve come to the conclusion that they’re flat-out bad....

Summary Prime Video’sInvincibleremains a very strong superhero offering. The intense action, complex characters and storytelling, and narrative depth all remain stellar after three seasons. The animated show does a great job of blending all these aspects with the personal struggles of its lead, Mark Grayson, and all of the various characters in his life. It explores what it really means to have superpowers in a messy, complicated world, much like a lot of the games in this list, which consist of projects that capture a similar vibe....

Ever since his introduction in the originalLegend of Zeldagame for the NES, Link held his sword in his left hand and his shield in his right. As a left-handed person myself, I always thought it was really cool that there was a character I loved who was like me, who also had the same experiences of struggling to use scissors properly, knocking elbows with right-handed people at dinner, and enjoying a higher on-base average percentage when playing baseball....

Doom: The Dark Agesis just around the corner. The legendary series from Id Software is returning next month, and it promises to bea big departure from the acrobatics and high-speed movement that Eternal spoiled us with. I’m excited to see how the new design philosophy of ‘stand and fight’ turns the Doom experience into something a bit slower and more strategic. I’m also curious about the cool mecha and the dragon, and how the team is trying to implement more open areas and exploration in a series well-known for its hallways and tight spaces....
