Summary

For a while now,Persona 5: The Phantom Xhas existed in Steam’s backend without having its own customer-facing store page. The Steam profile was updated on October 16 last year, sparking hopes that a release was imminent, but it went suspiciously quiet after that.

Five months later, Persona 5: The Phantom X’sSteam store pageis now live, but it comes with bad news for those who can’t read either Simplified Chinese or Japanese.

Persona 5: The Phantom X Finally Appears On Steam, Doesn’t Feature English Language Support

Persona 5: The Phantom X was initially developed as a mobile title, and has been in open beta in China since April 12, last year— almost exactly one year. It was later revealed thatthe game would be getting a PC and console release, as well as a version outside of China, but its locations weren’t specified.

This Steam page ultimately confirms P5X’s PC release, but unfortunately, for players who can’t read Simplified Chinese or Japanese text, its international release seems like it might not be for you.

The game’s Steam listing states, “English language not supported. This product does not have support for your local language. Please review the supported language list below before purchasing,” before revealing that the game only supports the two aforementioned languages.

It’s not all bad news, though. Earlier this month, we reported that during a developer livestream, the Persona 5: The Phantom X team revealed the game was almost 90 percent complete andmay have let slip that English language support would be coming further down the line.

Being a big Persona fan myself, last year, I was lucky enough to gohands-on with the game at Tokyo Game Show. In my preview, I said, “While my time with Persona 5: The Phantom X left me with plenty of questions, I came away feeling cautiously optimistic. The signs are promising, and it’s a game that I’ll be diving into if and when it heads over.”
